Ravenna Music Festival

Has anyone been to this festival? If so, what is it like? there doesn't seem to be much to see in RAvenna other than the mosaics, so any input on other stuff to see if we decide to go for the festival? how's the quality of the music? is the town too crowded to move? thanks. If you've been there, would appreciate ALL details.

<other than the mosaics>

This can be a full day affair...they are astounding! Also, there is Dante's tomb. I don't know about the music festival. When is that?

the music festival is in june/july. the mosaics sound fantastic, so perhaps staying for 2 nights of music with one full day to see the sights would work out. still hoping to find someone who's been to the festival.

I would second that! All of the sites are open on Sunday, but when we went...many years ago, we arrived by train from Venice and buses were not running, so we had a HUGE walk to St. Appolonaire en Classe (worth the 14k round trip, but we were younger then). There is also a very good museum, but again, not open on Sunday (not then anyway) and places to eat were few and far between. I would say, reserve seeing the sites for other than a Sunday, hopefully the music event will allow for that. I'd go back again. Hope you can get info on the music festival. Would love to know about it.
