Ravello, Villa d'Este, Civita di Bagnorégio ~ too much?
When we leave Ravello, we'll stay one night in Orvieto. On the way from Ravello to Orvieto, I would love to see Villa d'Este and Civita di Bagnorégio. The following day, before we head to Terre di Nano in Monticchiello, we will spend in Orvieto, so I don't want to double back.
Is this too much? I understand both will entail a lot of walking.
Anyone have opinions on Villa d'Este?
I know I want to walk up to Civita di Bagnorégio. Also I have this in my notes ( I think from a Fodors post) has anyone done seen her and visited her garden?
"Since we were with our Italian friend, he knew about a very very old lady (she was also apparently written up recently in Rick Steves's book so others now know about her as well) who sits outside her house on the curb and for the price of about one Euro, will let you walk into her garden in the back. She has a myriad of antiques and very old farm equipment which are amazing, along with a beautiful garden. But mostly the views from there are just not to be missed. She told us she recently lost her husband at the age of 90, and even though she is quite old and gnarled, you can see she was once a true beauty of a woman"

You can do a simple math here.
Suppose you are driving. Plug in destinations in Google map gives:
Ravello - Villa d'Este = 3hrs 10min
Villa d'Este - Civita = 1hr 35min
Civita - Orvieto = 26min
Total driving time = 5hrs 11min
Now, this is an optimistic estimate without traffic issues, getting lost, getting gas, finding place to park, or eating lunch. Let's say add an estimate of 2hrs to do all these, you get 7hrs 11min total consumed before you do any exploring of Villa d'Este and Civita.
Finally, decide when you are leaving Ravello and when you want to arrive in Orvieto. Subtract 7hrs 11min from Ravello to Orvieto desired travel time gives you what is left to explore Villa d'Este and Civita. You can decide if anything usable to you is left.

Ok, I'm not going to worry about Villa d'Este.
If we have time for Civita di Bagnorégio on the way to Orvieto we will do it then. If not, then we'll double back after our time in Orvieto, before we head to Monticchiello.
We will be leaving Orvieto headed for Monticchiello (via Civita di Bagnorégio) on a Monday. Orvieto's market days seem to be Thursdays and Saturdays. In Bagnoregio, market day is on Monday in the gas station parking lot, so I guess we could go there to stock up on food for our apartment @ Terre di Nano, but a gas station market doesn't sound very charming. Anyone know of any wonderful shops in Orvieto or Momticchiello?

Yes, this is way too much. You will see once you get there and start traveling around that it takes more time than you think! Save Tivoli for another trip.
We loved Civita di Bagnoreggio and visited it one afternoon during a 3 day stay in Orvieto. The larger town of Bagnoreggio is probably where the so called gas station market would be. There are no gas stations in the ancient hilltop town of Civita di Bagnoreggio. The walk is easy until the last little steep section. Views from everywhere in the town are awesome! Very few residents left, but lots of lovely flowers everywhere. We spent about 2 leisurely hours all together.
There is a small parking area at the base of the bridge to the town. When we were there you needed to have coins for the parking machines and the nearby restaurant would not give change. You can only imagine how many times a day they are asked!
As I remember the drive from Orvieto to Civita took about 30 minutes.

The old lady was still in Civita the first week of September. I didn't see her (although I did on a previous trip) so I can't say for sure it's the same one, but my travel companion toured her garden this time.
Civita is about a 30 minute drive from Orvieto. We didn't park as the base of the bridge (sort of under) so can't address the parking cost/situation. There are public restrooms that were decent which I don't recall on a past trip.
If you park in the new town, there is a bus that will take you almost to the base of the bridge.
The church in the main piazza is under scaffolding.
