Ravello or Positano?

We are debating whether we should stay in Positano or Ravello for 3 nights in June- we already have 4 nights booked at the Quisianna. We are used to 5 star luxury hotels but Sirenuse and San Pietro seem prohibitively expensive. We were able to get a reasonable rate at Palazzo Sasso which I hear is amazing- would you stay there in Ravello or a 4 star in Positano such as Poseidon or Covo? I am not sure if we are missing out by not staying in Positano if we are first time visitors the Amalfi Coast. Let me know. Thanks.

I think it depends what you're looking for. I've heard that Palazzo Sasso is amazing, too, but Ravello is definitely quieter and more out of the way than Positano. Also, it's not on the water, which to me is one of the main reasons to come to the Amalfi Coast.

Positano is much busier than Ravello (except when there's a summer music festival), but any number of hotels there would give you the option to walk to dinner, shops, and the town beach/dock. We really love it there despite the summer crowds, and have stayed very happily many times at The Hotel Poseidon.

I won't weigh in on where to stay, but I will tell you that I had a tour of the public areas of Palazzo Sasso last May and the hotel looked amazing.

Covo is right on the beach in Positano..really a very different feeling than the exclusivity of PS in Ravello.

Maybe you want to take a look at this hotel, in Amalfi; you can easily do a day trip to Positano from there:

If you are in good shape and do want to enjoy a great village less touristy but as magic as Positano go to Ravello. Find some tourist info about Ravello at: http://www.summerinitaly.com/guide/ravello

Palazzo Sasso is simply awesome!!

http://www.palazzosasso.com/ if you do want to spend less money and stay into a great place a personally suggest to rent a self catering villa through Summer in Italy itself, otherwise go for Hotel Parsifal http://www.hotelparsifal.com/
lovely 3stars hotel, well-located and comfortable.

Hi sn,

Ravello is somewhat isolated, at the top of a steep hill, with wonderful views over the Med.

There is bus and cab service from Amalfi.

If you have an acceptable rate at the Sasso, I suggest that you take it.

> We are used to 5 star luxury hotels ...<

Then 4 cab rides up from Amalfi shouldn't be a budget breaker.

Enjoy the AC.

I suggest Ravello, and if you have time go to visit Positano for a little shopping.
Palazzo Sasso is really beautiful. As a first visit in Amalfi Coast I really suggest Ravello and Positano for the next holiday.

Neither - I'd stay at the Santa Caterina in Amalfi. (And I have stayed in all 3 places.)

Yes, although I did not stay there (unlike the lucky Caroline!) I did look in and must agree that Santa Caterina is absolutely gorgeous. And this poster seems to be looking for 5-star/luxury properties.

Covo in Positano is certainly not on a level that comes remotely close to this, by the way.
