RAPALLO,Italy Hotels
Has anyone stayed in a nice hotel in Rapallo ? Is this too far away from the Cinque Terre for day trips. We like staying in the larger towns where there's alittle more to do.
If you don't find the kind of hotel you seek in Rapallo, I suggest Santa Margarita Ligure, just down the road a piece and on the rail line south from Genoa. It is very close to Portofino, a place you won't want to miss.

Hello Tom, I agree with Al. You have 2
feasible choices. If you want a nice
place to stay then Santa Marg. is your
best choice to the north of the C.T.,
or Portovenere to the south. I prefer the latter because of the natural beauty
but either is great. Rapallo is not your
best option.

Tom, don't be dissuaded by the comments on Rapallo. We stayed in S. Margarita a few years ago, but spent a lot of time in Rapallo, because there was more to do there. I'm sure someone knows a hotel there. Good luck
Joe

We stayed 4 nights this summer in Sta. Margherita Ligure and loved it. Hotel Regina Elena (a Best Western) was a nice choice, mainly for its rooftop pool, which was great in the afternoon. Easy to go to the Cinque Terre by train from Sta. M. I think also from Rapallo) Can spend full day at C.T (don't need more)., walking between some towns, train between others and ferry between Vernazzo and no. 5 (Monterrosa I think). Then train back to S.M. Steep walks between 3-4 and 4-5 (northernmost towns). Went to excellent restaurant in Rapallo-La Goletta. Delicious and reasonable. e-mail if want to know more.
I don't know what your budget is like, but the Excelsior Palace in Rapallo is gorgeous! You can take a boat to St. Marguerita and to Portofino. They run frequently, and are inexpensive.
