We are considering trying this firm out. Frommer touts it as a lower cost version of European bike tour companies, but we were wondering if anyone has gone on a trek with this firm?
The prices don't really seem that much less.

I'm not sure what company you're talking about. The classic randonées in France are walking tours that are self-guided, with accompanying maps that you use to get from place to place.
Is there now a company called Randonnée that charges you for information regarding bike routes? If so, I'd be a bit careful, since that kind of information is pretty easy to get on your own.

Randonnee is just a French noun that means hike or bike tour, so it wouldn't surprise me that a company has used that as part of its name and don't think there's anything wrong with that as it's just a noun and there is no good substitution for that word. That is the name of a self-guided bike/hiking/active sports touring company (Randonnee Tours Ltd) based in Canada, maybe that's the one asked about? www.randonneetours.com
They do a lot more than give you maps.

The company that I was inquiring of is Randonnee Self Guided Vacations (based in Winnipeg)
http://www.randonneetours.com/
which was written about by Frommer in Sunday's Travel Section (probably a syndicated piece) and was noted as a lower cost alternative to BackRoads ect. and that it had been around for 12 years or so.
I guess that I truly would like to hear from those who had actually been on their tours to see if it is as good as Frommer said it was.
