Random thoughts & advice-Amalfi Coast
 

We enjoyed September 12-20 on the Amalfi Coast. Some observations:

Great time to visit. Less crowds, easier to get around.

Praiano was a dream. Le Sirene hotel very comfortable and friendly. Spectacular views. Close to Positano and Amalfi.

We drove and made it fine. Traffic very manageable. Also rode buses.

Weather hot and sweaty-take shorts, cap or hat, and sunscreen.

Comfortable shoes a must. Seemed like every step was either up or down.

Go to Capri the first calm day. Be flexible. The weather determines.

Rock slide closed the road between Praiano and Amalfi for three days. Ferries provided excellent conveyance between Positano and Amalfi.

Ravello was a delight. Delicious dinner at Cumpo Cosmas, recommended by Maria at Le Sirene.

Drove to Pompei from Praiano (1 hour and 15 minutes). Toured the ruins for 2 1/2 hours-about 2 hours too long for me. After 8-10 buildings, things looked about the same. And it was hot and dusty.

The festival-Feast of San Gennaro-was celebrated while we were there. Classical music and bombastic fireworks!! All at the church just above Le Sirene.

Gelato-gelato-gelato everywhere (and delicious).

The best of all were the people. Friendly, helpful, and Italian--not a worry in sight.
