rainy day activities in Rome!
I have 7 or so days in Rome in the beginning of June, and am loosely putting together an Itinary. I'm holding off indoor activities till later in the week and was interested to know which site seeing activities can and can't be carried out on a rainy day?

Very good question, tracker. I'll be looking at the responses.

You could spend a few hours in the Vatican museums if it's raining, but other than that, I think we were outdoors the whole time we were in Rome!

It will not rain in June! Think positive!
Explore churches |
About the only thing I would not want to do if it is raining hard, would be to visit the Palentine Hill because it is so exposed or visit the grounds of the Villa Borghese. Or to take an exclusively outdoor stroll. Most of my recent activities in Rome seem to involve something indoor, such as churches and museums combined with outdoor. And rain, of which there was some, did not have much impact other than on one ocasion not sitting outside for lunch because there was no place with a canopy.

Just what kind of indoor activities are you saving for later in the week???
The maon problem would be transportation. You could book the Scavi Tour and do The Sistine Chapel and the rest of St. Peters in one long day. It would keep you out of the rain for the most part. Also the Catacombs or Borhese Museum. |
Rain or shine: The Vatican
Regardless of your religious views, it's one spectacular place. The painting, tapestries, marble statues, and Sisteen Chapel are unparalled. |
Thanks for the replies thus far!
Wasn't expecting rain , but is always a possibility I guess. Was thinking of holding off on the Vatican, but can see myself putting it at the front of my list of things to do, while in Rome; although other than this I will initially be out in the blazing sunshine enjoying the fresh air and multitude of sites(think positive). Any other comments welcome (please)! ( I thought this would also be a good thread other posters could carry out a search on) thanks again |
