Rain boots for Baltic cruise?
We're taking a Baltic cruise Aug 20-31. We'll spend 6 days prior in Bergen, Norway, and Aug 31-Sept 4 in Copenhagen.
Should we bring rain boots or some type of waterproof shoes? Thank you, Sue |
Good quality walking shoes should do.

I agree with the above. If you have good walking shoes, chances are they a leather and can be "waterproofed" with a little shoe polish. I always have two pair in case one gets really soaked. They will dry overnight. I think the rain boots, if they are the rubber boots that I am thinking of, get wet from the inside out as your feet sweat in them. They get stinky and they offer almost no support while walking. In my youth, I walked around Expo '67 in Montreal in them, and then had an achilles tendonitis for weeks and couldn't walk at all!!

You can spray your shoes with that waterproofing which comes in a can; stuff works great. I think you might want an umbrella.

The weather will be warm even if raining, rainboots would probably too hot regardless. I bring these Crocs slingbacks as my rain shoes on hot weather trips; the water runs through them, they dry almost instantly. But if you were bringing closed leather shoes (I wouldn't at this time of year) you can spray waterproof them. Check the weather week before you go and pack accordingly. We are going to southern France in the same timeframe and just bringing one pair that would work in rainy weather (the rest are sandals and lightweight mesh shoes).

A rain jacket and umbrella would gengood ideas but skip the boots.

I can't imagine either clomping around europe in those giant rubber boots (aren't they for farmers?) or hauling them to and fro across the atlantic. That much rain is unlikely - drizzle or mist is much more likely.
As long as shoes are sturdy and waterproofed (there's a spray that makes them resistant) and you have a sturdy folding umbrella and a tissue weight rain jacket with hood you will be fine. |
Thanks everyone. No boots...and of course, an umbrella and good walking shoes.

I got really good walking shoes and I have an umbrella. Now I'm obsessing over whether to bring a somewhat bulky rainproof jacket or just a light weight, rainproof poncho.
Advice appreciated. Thank you Sue |
