Rain!

Well, we leave for Switzerland tomorrow, after much help from people on this forum. But the weather outlook is grim. Our 3 days in Lucerne are cloudy/rainy, and our 3 days in Lauterbrunnen are just plain rainy.

We had planned to do a lot of outdoor activities. I guess we can hike in the rain, but the Jungfrau is probably a waste of money. Mount Pilatus? What are good activities in the rain? (I always figure on a FEW rainy days, or days with a bit of everything in them, but the forecast looks very foreboding).

While in Lauterbrunnen, visit Trummelbach Falls. Its an awesome natural wonder of a stream which has carved itself out of the valley's interior rock walls and you can walk along it in a cave like setting. Its spectacular anytime but well worth the effort in the rain.

Remember, they will forecast rain anytime there is measurable precipitation but it doesn't mean there won't be breaks. Good luck!

A little rain is always nice in summer. Just enjoy it and don't change any plans, it's been too dry anyway. The rain will stop eventually.

Ah well, a LITTLE rain I wouldn't mind. Accuweather is the one that got me all worried (the forecast is just dreadful to look at). Looks like the current nice temperatures are going to go down quite a bit as well. I'll hope you're both right and we'll see the sun once in a while!

Don't worry. Check http://www.weatheronline.co.uk/Switzerland.htm it's half as bad a it looks.

We're waiting for the rain, but it still didn't come, only short spells.

Only Wednesday looks really bad with lots of rain. Otherwise it's just showers and a mix of sun and clouds. Not too bad! Have a look at this website:

I spent 12 days in Switzerland last year and the online weather always predicted rain. It did rain some but not all day. There were plenty of sunny breaks. It was dreary and overcast in Lauterbrunnen but Jungfrau was beautiful. Most hotels have access to cameras on top of Jungfrau so you can decide if you would like to venture up the mountain. Don't get discouraged I bet the sun will come out at least half of the time. Have a wonderful trip.

Last September I was facing the same problem. Rain was predicted for the days I was staying in Wengen. We never saw the first drop of rain. So happy about that! I will be in Wengen again June 14-17. I'm hoping for sunshine again.

Thanks for all the encouragement, I'm keeping my fingers crossed!

Another testimony to avoid the forecast. The last 4 vacations have called for rain and it ended up being minimal to none.

In Wengen right now, and the forecast called for rain yesterday and today. It did rain higher up in the mountains this morning (we retreated and had coffee and strudel instead--not a bad thing!), but only a brief shower in Wengen--otherwise, scattered sun and clouds and no more than 70 degrees.

Just an update - the week we have been here (3 days Luzern, 3 days Lauterbrunnen have had less than ideal weather. Locals are telling us it is cooler than usual (about 10 degrees) and much rainier than usual for this time of year).

We HAVE managed to work around the weather, and were able to see Mount Pilatus, Jungfraujoch, take the gondola from Grindelwald to First and hike to Bachalpsee... Today is drizzly - perfect for Trummelback Falls, which were just spectacular.

So you CAN enjoy your trip, rain or shine. (Now if it had been actually RAINING all day, every day I might not be so sanguine....)

Tomorrow we travel to Salzburg, then Vienna, part 2 of the trip. With more inside things to do, weather will not be as much of an issue, but I would appreciate it being a tinch warmer.

This keyboard is driving me crazy, the z and y are reversed, I cannot find an apostrophe or an exclamation point (well, I SEE them, but cannot figure out how to ACCESS them).

Hold the shift key and then press the resp. key...

Alice, I leave Munich headed for Wengen in the morning. I'm hoping for at least one sunny day so that I can go to Schilthorn. I've been to Jungfraujoch twice with the very best weather conditions. But since I have been in Germany and Austria, I have had lots of cool rainy days. Then on Saturday the 18th I fly back to Texas. Weather there is very dry and HOT!!! over 100
