Railpass or point- to- point?

I will be in Paris for a week. I would like to take a day trip to Beaune, and Versailles.Would a railpass save me money? Also could you recommend any vineyard tours? I am hoping to travel to Burgundy to see some vineyards. Would it be possible to stop in Beaune or Dijon and travel down to Avignon in a day? Am I asking to much out of my week in Paris? Thank You!

I would not get a railpass for just a few day trips. Just go to the train station before the trip and buy roundtrip point-to-point tickets. You'll be surprised how cheap they are compared to the equivalent miles in most railpasses. Railpasses only seem worthwhile when you are taking long train rides every day. A daytrip to Avignon is possible on the TGV, but you won't have but a few enjoyable hours there. It would be better to spend one night in Avignon so you are not rushed stopping in the other towns along the way.

Hi jen,

Definitely don't by a pass. You might not want to leave Paris in your short week.

Beaune is a daytrip. Versailles is at least a 1/2 day. I also suggest an overnight if you want to visit Avignon.

Another idea would be to combine a daytrip to see Chartres and Versailles the same day (half-day each) and return to Paris. Both towns lie on the same rail line as I recall, Chartres being further away. There you can visit what I consider to be the epitome of the gothic cathedral. And in Versailles you'll see the epitome of the baroque palace.
