Railcard and oyster card in the UK

We're going to the UK at the end of July. It can save a lot to travel by train or metro with railcard and oyster card. I'm wondering whether I can purchase railcard and oyster card online or I can only purchase them at the station when we arrive in London. Looking forward to the responses!

You can but it isn't worth it as you have additional costs.

you can buy Advance rail tickets online stating you have a railcard - then when you arrive you must buy the accompanying railcard at a ticket office before you travel

Thank you, sofarsogood. Yes, I'm just doing that and I'll buy the railcard the moment I arrive in London.

Oh boy. Let's see what we're dealing with.

Is your daughter 12+? If so, then the Oyster card may be less useful than doing this:

(1) Go to www.daysoutguide.co.uk and print off every voucher of interest to you.
(2) Get passport size headshots of you and daughter before you go to London.
(3) Go to London and purchase a 7-day travelcard for you and her at any national rail station (Victoria, Paddington, etc). No, you can't get it at Heathrow.
(4) Show the travelcard and voucher at appropriate sites - this saves a TON of money at the Tower, Hampton Court, War Rooms, Bletchley, others. The travelcard costs the same as max-ing out your Oyster card for four days.
