Rail Station Open?
Does anyone know if the main rail station in Lisbon will be open by November? I hear that it was closed for renovations this year. We are headed to Lisbon November 8-14 and would like to take some day trips out of this station. thanks!

Which station are you talking about? If it is the Rossio, then I wouldn't worry because, it didn't affect any of our day trips while we were there this summer. We either left from the "Cais de Sodre" station, or from the underground Chiado station. If there is somewhere specific you are going that might be affected, there is probably an alternate station/route to take. For example, for Sintra.
Lobo, can help so much with specific- alternate routes! Just ask away and I'm sure he'll be more than happy to help. |
Are you referring to Santa Apolonia?? If you're talking daytrips you may be referring to Cais do Sodré from whence you can daytrip to Sintra or maybe EntreCampos where two rail (or Tranvia) lines have terminals, one on one side of Avda da Republica and the other across the Avda and about 150m from there. I think that's where you can get a train to Cascais.
I really consider Oriente Multimodal Transportation Center to be Lisbon's principal Rail station now ... |
Good question. What is the main station? Rossio station is closed. All the others, AFAIK are opened.

We are landing in Lisbon on October 7th and immediately going to Sintra for 3 days. I am a little confused about the train stations - on the CP website it shows the station as Entrecampos to Sintra train ride for 40 minutes. Is this the best way to go to Sintra? Is taking a cab from the Lisbon airport to this train station the best option? Is the station commonly called by the same name - Entrecampos?
