Rail Pass - Italy
 

My friend and I have 8 days (arriving 7am Sat and departing 1030am the following Sunday) in Rome over Thanksgiving. We are looking at spending 3-4 days (probably all day trips) outside of Rome. Do people suggest buying a Eurail Pass for just Italy? According to the Eurail website, it seems to make sense, but I dont know if there are any restrictions on using the pass, etc. The day trips we are considering are:

-Orvieto
-Caserta/Herculaneum/Naples (long day)
-Tivoli
-a possible undecided 4th location (any suggestions?)

A pass will be MORE expensive than just buying the tickets you need as you go.

Buying tickets on the spot will be MUCH les money. For you, a pass would be a complete waste.

even though the Eurail Italy Pass is currently 20% off in a promo you are not nearly traveling enough to make it pay off - you are taking mainly regional trains, except to Naples and back and these are dirt cheap. For folks wishing to learn the nuances of Italian trains and European trains in general i always point out - in addition to www.seat61.com mentioned above also www.ricksteves.com and www.budgeteuropetravel.com - sites loaded with great info and not just pushing passes on folks in this case rarely a good deal.
