Rail pass in Italy worth it?
We plan:

Milan to Como
Como to Venice
Venice to Florence
Florence/Pisa/Cinque Terre /Day Roundtrip
Florence/Siena
Siena/Rome
Rome/Pompeii/Day roundtrip
Rome/airport

I hear that the bus is best for Milan airport to Como, and Siena to Rome.
Have no idea what the individual fares are to places so I do not know if the pass is a good deal.

If it is which one should I get?

Thanks

Debby

You will have more flexibility by not getting the rail pass.I don't think they are worth it unless you live in Italy or are staying there for a long time. Also don't think the passes apply on local lines like those for Pompeii and Cinque Terre. I am assuming you are traveling alone or with one other person. There are rail pass bargains for families. Try www.trenitalia.com. It sometimes gives prices on the more popular lines. I say "sometimes" because when it comes to Italy's beloved train system, all bets are off.

You can check the prices at www.trenitalia.com. A pass probably won't save you money, but it might be convenient not to have to buy individual tickets.

The most you'd pay (taking most expensive trains) for point to point tickets, including seat reservations is (2nd/1st class):

Milan - Como: bus is better; Eur 11
Como - Venezia: Eur 23/33
Venezia - Firenze: Eur 27/40
Day trip out from Florence: Eur 33/43 (be prepared to spend 6 hours on the train)
Florenze - Siena: bus is better; about Eur 7
Siena - Rome: I'd also prefer the bus; train would cost Eur 19/24
Rome - Pompei roundtrip: Eur 40/30
Rome - airport: Eur 9

Forget about the rail pass ... for Malpensa-Como bus schedule see
http://www.sptcomo.it/orari/malpensa.html
