Rail from Rome to Positano to Florence
We are travelling to Positano/Ravello for a wedding in September and would like to spend 3-4 days in Florence/Tuscany before returning to Boston. We're considering flying into Rome and taking a train to Naples then bus to Positano. Then later from Naples (largest rail station closest to Amalfi area??) to Florence.
Any advise or suggestions on the ground travel bus/train connections greatly appreciated..... |
While in Italy last year we took a train from Venice to Rome. We booked 1st class travel and had a great time. The views were great and it was a nice break from all the touring while seeing nice countryside. I do suggest the trains.

Hi d,
It would make your trip much easier if you went Rome - Florence - Positano and flew home from Naples. Even easier if you flew into Naples and out of Florence or Pisa. ((I)) |
Thanks ira.
We considered those options but unfortunately the wedding date and grandparents schedule here (looking fwd to sole possession of our 20 month old for 2 weeks) required the Amalfi wedding at the start of our trip = Florence/Tuscany latter part of the trip. Also, there are no direct flights out of/into Florence or Naples to Boston - all transit thru Roma FCO = $$$$. How easy is it to get from Positano to Sorrento or Naples by bus and then onto Florence by train? |
Hi don,
Check http://airtravelcenter.com/onetrav.htm for open jaws and www.mobissimo.com for RT fares. Positano Sorrento is about 20 min on the SITA bus. Sorrento/Naples on the Circumvesuviana is about an hour. Naples to Florence is 3:30 hr. You might also want to consider taking the ferry to Salerno and then the train to Florence. Positano - Salerno (P.zza della Concordia): 5 E 70 min 10,00 – 11,30 – 13,30 – 15,40 – 17,15 |
