Rail / Ferry Rome to Igoumenitsa

Advice please on the best way to travel this route late October without overnights in Brindisi.
Also I am unable to find out rail costs.
We are also looking at returning to Rome mid November departing from Patras in Greece.
Advice and suggestions welcomed.

The best route would be by Superfast Ferries from Bari (www.superfast.com). They have a ship every night at 2000, getting to Igoumenitsa at 0630 the next morning. The service will not be too busy in October, and booking a cabin should be easy. Train services from Roma to Bari can be checked on www.trenitalia.com. For the return trip from Patra, Superfast's service to Bari would be the best.

Have you done this journey. Is it necessary to book a cabin, or is "deck" OK?
And,is it likely that the ferries will be cancelled in rough weather?

I've been from Italy to Greece several times using various routes. Superfast's ships are big ships and would only be cancelled by exceptional storms which probably hit the Adriatic once every five years. As to the question of whether "deck" is OK, if you spend a night ashore, do you pay for a hotel or sleep on a park bench ? If you prefer hotels, then get a cabin on the ship. The cabins all have bathrooms, and the ships have bars, restaurants, a swimming pool, etc.

IMHO in October a deck passage is not advisable. Temperatures can be very cold, and it may easily rain. Book a cabin or, at least, a seat.

Thanks for the advice. Seems that it is wise to be indoors
