RailEurope will sell you the same tickets for a higher price.

Trenitalia is the official italian train system website.

RailEurope is a reseller of tickets for many different train systems.

Here's a very informative post by GAC on trenitalia. He/she posts lots of great info about train travel in Italy.

Rail Europe sells passes along with point-to-point tickets (inflated). It used to be a rail pass for Italy was not cost effective, but with the increase in fares (which go into effect next week -12/13) and the reduction in seat reservation fees (seats are mandatory on most trains in Italy)that may no longer be the case. Be sure to add on seat reservations to the cost of the pass ($15 per seat/ticket). Point-to-point ticket prices on Trenitalia include the price of the seat.
