Rail advice from Zurich to Czech R, Austria, Slovenia back Zurich

My husband and I will be visiting Zurich. From there we plan to travel to Prague, Vienna, Hallstatt, lake Bled, Ljubljana and back to Zurich in 13 days. We have not book anything yet. We are looking into Eurorail. Need advice on best route to travel to these cities.Thank you.

Before you buy a Eurail pass look at the prices for point-to-point tickets. A rail pass is not always a good option. You can find schedules and pricing from the web sites for each country.

For general train information use seat61.com

You can visit Lake Bled as a day trip from Ljubljana so there is no need to change hotels for a short distance.

Why are you returning to Zurich? Why not fly to Zurich and fly home from another city such as Prague or Vienna?

I think you have too many destinations resulting in too much travel and not enough time to sight see.

1. There's a direct City Night Line (CNL) sleeper train from Zurich to Prague, booking opens 92 days ahead, fares from 59 euros with a couchette (simple flat bunk with rug & pillow), 104 euros with a bed in a 2-bed sleeper (shower at the end of the corridor, breakfast included) or from 134 euros with a bed in a 2-bed deluxe sleeper with en suite toilet and shower, breakfast included. Book at German Railways www.bahn.de/en and print your own ticket.

2. Prague to Vienna by regular EuroCity train starts at just 19 euros pre-booked at Czech Railways www.cd.cz/eshop with print-at-home tickets.

3. For journeys within or starting in Austria, use Austrian Railways www.oebb.at

Unless you book a round trip starting in Austria (www.oebb.at) you'll need to book Zagreb or Ljubljana to Switzerland at the station or by phone from a ticketing agency.
