Racing the Nurburgring!

The Nurburg Ring is Formula 1 race track in Germany, the website is here:

http://www.nuerburgring.de/index.php?id=335

But, even with google translator, I cant figure out how to buy a ticket for a specific date in September.

Or, can a girl just show up??

Thanks to my German speaking friends and motoring enthusiasts

This is the website with the schedule:

www.nuerburgring.de/events.286.0.html

Please specify what do you want.

Do you want to drive with your own car on the ring?

Then pick a date with "Touristenfahrten", show up, buy a ticket and start driving.

Do you want to drive with a professional race driver ("Drift-Taxi" @ 39 EUR or "BMW Ring-Taxi @ 185 EUR for up to 3 persons)?

Then send an enquiry to:

[email protected] (Drift-Taxi)

or:

[email protected] (Ring-Taxi)

Do you want to watch a race?

Then buy a ticket here:

Unless you are a seriously good driver, with a fast car, (not a hire car!) I would go with option two if you want to go round the ring.

Sabine Schmitz (well known to viewers of Top Gear) drives the taxi:

If you take the taxi please do not eat anything for breakfast.

<<< Sabine Schmitz >>>

Does she do it in a Trannie?

After you have driven with Sabine Schmitz you will never again complain about a woman driver.

Cholmondley_Warner Aug 4th, 2008 07:32 AM

I wouldn't mind a trip round the block with Sabine.

Does it mean you won't mind her standing at the curbside?

I answered yesterday on US Board.

You can just show up.

You can't take a standard rental car on the Ring. It's against the contract and they pay spys to look out for their cars.

It's hit or miss with European Delivery cars. The rule is that red license plates (the standard issue plate for Euro Delivery) are not allowed, but they usually don't care. However, they did care when I went! :(

You will not puke on the Ring Taxi (though I certainly wouldn't want to be hungover), but book well in advance.

If you want to drive a rental race car (usually a small BMW or other car), start looking ASAP, because those book up well in advance, too. The Rent-a-Racecar family were the nicest people we met in Germany.

If you're looking for a hotel, we really enjoyed the Dorint Novotel right on the track. Get a trackside view. My husband was like a little boy watching the world's fastest production cars go up the hill.

I drove the Nurburgring a few years ago and that was enough for me.

My DH and I just drove on and paid 15E/lap. DH drove our friend's Opel sedan and by the second lap he had to stop because the tires were smoking.

You have to know what you are doing on the track if you don't want to get hurt. Speed is king. After the first lap I wanted out...speed is not my thing. DH loved it as he raced a Masterati in the Opel!

I wanted to take a picture of the odometer but they do not allow any cameras in the car.

Have fun.

Reminds me of how bummed my husband and I were when it was foggy on the morning we ended up at the Nurburgring several years ago...

Thanks everyone for the replies, and especially the details on how to reserve and the Dorint Novotel.

Appreciate it!
The departure is right around the corner!!

Right now my trip photo journal is too big. Will arrange Nurburgring specific shots into a single album and post the link next week.

COMPLETE SET OF NURBURGRING PHOTOS, Of the paddock, visitors center, views of modern track from the hotel conference room, and of the track entry itself.

photos are forbidden ON the road of the actual ring, but there's some shots you CAN see the "ring" through barbed wire fencing.

Besides, I was too busy holding the HOLY SH** Handle to take photos!
