rabbies tours

I am having difficulty getting rabbies to show, what is correct url. Also Sheila, would a tour to East Neuk of Fife be worthwhile? I found timberbush tours, they appear to all start in Edinburgh, so will try them too. Thanks Joyce
ps I did try to find rabbies in posts.
You have to watch those dog bites

East Neuk (I'm right on the cusp of it) is well worth a look, do the whole East-neuk-and-st-andrews thing at once.

This is one hell of a post.

Are you after rabbis, and if so how many? Or is it rabbits you are being after? Or do you fancy contracting rabies? Now there's a holiday to talk about.

And is a url an instrument used in the performance of a rabbi's clinical duties, a rabbit's living quarters, or an antivenene for rabies?

And who may Sheila be?

And is there really a place called East Neuk?

Joyce, enlighten me!

What's "rabbies" and why do you want it to show?

Tony Hughes Feb 21st, 2001 03:42 AM

Harzer

it's an area of Fife, Scotland (Europe) noted for its links to the fishing industry of old and its supposed quaint charm.

Thanks.

After some difficulty I phoned them. Try www.rabbies.com

"Rabbies" is short for Rabbie's Trailburners a tour company which perates out of Edinburgh.

"Neuk" is Scots for corner.

And I am Sheila

Thanks, as always you came through. This site if full of comedians, gave me a laugh to start the day. J

Joyce

I thought I'd throw in a bit about Fife:-
The Forth Rail bridge is worth driving past. Just over the river Dunfermilne is on your left. Robert the Bruce, the hero king who won Bannockburn is buried here in Dunfermilne Abbey (although his heart is buried at Melrose in the borders).

The estuary of the Forth widens to superb beaches (with wonderful links golf courses behind them ) and in Fife you have St Andrew's, home of golf (the beach where they filmed the opening sequences of Chariots of Fire?)It has to be one of the best beaches in the world- the West Sands, - shame about the weather. The Royal and Ancient Golf Club is seriously worth a visit. The Golf Museum is also worth a visit if you care about golf

To get to St Andrews you go past Loch Leven where Mary Queen of Scots was kept imprisoned on one of the islands and escaped from. (v. romantic..the story of the escape- she then fled to her cousin in England for succour. She(Elizabeth) locked her up for 20 years then beheaded her.(perfidious Albion!)

If you can’t play at the Old Course, there are courses all the way up through Fife. Amongst the best are Elie, Lundin Links, Ladybank and Crail.

Other things to do in St Andrews include:-a trip underneath the castle. It can be a bit of a squeeze so if you are claustrophobic then probably best to pass on this one. John Knox used to live in this castle - also get chance to see the bottle dungeon - according to (Tony’s) dad, he was imprisoned there as a student for charity or something - some horrific stories he keeps for special occasions. St. Andrews has an ancient university, a cathedral (we do have a lot of them, don't we?). It has one of the best ice cream shops in the world (Jannetta's) apart from being a lovely little town.

Anstruther, Fife. Visit the fishing museum, Then have the best fish in the world for your lunch. After that drive along the coast to Largo, home of the 'original' Robinson Crusoe. When Daniel Defoe wrote about Robinson Crusoe, he was writing about a real person. His name was Alexander Selkirk and he came from Largo in Fife. Defoe was an English spy up in Scotland in the 1700's and nicked the story. This is of particular interest to Tony, as Tony is distantly related to Selkirk. That area of Fife is well worth a visit

On the other side of Loch Leven from the castle is Vane Farm a very pretty bird reserve.

there are lots of other nice places, like Ceres, Falkland Palace, the East Neuk villages- Crail and Pittenweem, St Monans and Leven. Great restaurant at The Peat Inn. Hope this helps
Sheila,
You reliably find a way to work "perfidious Albion" into a thread once a year. Do you mark it on your calendar? ;)
Joyce -

I took the 12 hour Highlands tour (including Loch Ness) through Rabbies in January. It was a very nice day and well worth the money. I found our tour guide to be very friendly and informative. I'd recommend it.

Sheila Feb 21st, 2001 11:32 PM

Pam; no. It's just so deeply ingrained in my psyche that it sneaks out when I'm not looking.....

Or maybe, it's in Word documents I have stored for the purpose of hlpinghapless travellers and you are fated to del with my turgid prose repeatedly for ever
