Sorry posted too quickly

So the scorpion asks the frog to carry him on his bag to the other side. The frog says that the scorpion will sting him, the scorpion replies thats ridiculous if I sting you will both die crossing the river. The frog beleives the logic and allows the scorpion on his back, halfway across the river the scorpion stings the frog, so the frog in his last dying breath aks the scorpion why he stung him so both will die now. The scorpion replies "Its in my nature, I cant help myself"

Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming, Wow what a ride!

This does apply to travel, if you think about it:

"A man who tries to carry a cat home by its tail will learn a lesson he cannot learn any other way."

Mark Twain

I have three on my wall here:

"Never doubt that a thoughtful dedicated group of people can change the world. Indeed, that is all that ever has." - Margaret Meade

"Peace is not the absence of conflict, it is the presence of justice."
- Martin Luther King, Jr.

"New is easier to clean."

-Me (And it is 30 plus years old and gets quoted back to me by my women friends at least 4 times a year. Said while building my first house and have contracted two more since then.)

"I used to be disgusted now I try to be amused." Elvis Costello

"Far be it from me to be the big eraser on the chalkboard of fun"

"It isn't the fall that kills you, it's the sudden stop at the end."

About travel (well sort of): "To discover new lands we must first loose sight of the shore."

"I suspect that our race's tragedy has been played endless times. It may be that an intelligent race has to expand right up to its disaster point to achieve what is needed to break out of its planet and reach for the stars. It may always -- or almost always -- be a photo finish, with the outcome uncertain to the last moment. Just as it is with us. It may take endless wars and unbearable population pressure to force-feed a technology to the point where it can cope with space. In the universe, space travel may be the birth pangs of an otherwise dying race. A test. Some races pass, some fail..."

"There is an old picture of a people traveling by sleigh through deep woods--pursued by wolves. Every now and then they grab one of their number and toss him to the wolves. That's conscription even if you call it selective service and pretty it up with USOs and veterans' benefits--it's tossing a minority to the wolves while the rest go on with that single-minded pursuit of the three-car garage, the swimming pool, and the safe & secure retirement benefits."

Both from Robert A. Heinlein, my favorite science fiction author.

There are various forms of this quote, and various attributions as well, so it's hard to figure out whether it was Jefferson or Franklin or exactly what he said. But I find the essence to be sound.

"He who would trade liberty for some temporary security deserves neither liberty nor security."

If anyone can cite a reference to the original text, I'd like to have it.

Pop gear is used for trolling. Attach it on the line then trail a lure behind it. It helps attract fish to your lure.
