quillan to barcelona via ax les thermes

Hi we are winding up a wonderful stay in Languedoc this week, based near Narbonne. We are hoping to take part in a bike tour this coming Saturday in Quillan and then spend a night or two in the region prior to going to Barcelona.

We are considering Ax- les- Thèrmes for a couple of nights (hotel L'Auzeraie) in order to soak in the waters after the bike randonée and do a section of the Tour de France route or a hike the following day before heading over the Pyrenees via Berga to Barcelona. We could also maybe opt for Les Bains de St Thomas hot springs.

Any suggestions/tips for things to do/where to eat/what to avoid along this route? We are with our two teens. Have people visited the spa and hot springs? Is this route a crazy idea?

We could just skip the randonée and head straight down the coast but thought it might be worth detouring through here unless the weather does not improve. Rainy and cold today.

thanks in advance!

St Thomas hot springs are great but there are others places closer to your route.
in Llo : lesbainsde.llo.free.fr
Restaurant Atalaya in Llo is very good.
In Dorres : www.bains-de-dorres.com/
Restaurant in Quillan : Pierre-Lys
Restaurant in Sallagouse : Maison Planes

La Seu d'Urgell (cathedral), Ripoll (Abbey of San Joan de les Abaddesses and cloister), Manresa (basilica and modernist architecture) and Cardona (castle/parador and salt mines) are interesting places to visit.

The weather should improve tomorrow.

THank-you!

I think I had read about Dorres before and somehow forgot about them. The baths in Llo look even nicer. Do you know of good accommodation there? Maybe we overnight in Quillan and then spend a night in Llo?

I will have to go back to the drawing board for the route. My husband is keen to do the Port de Pailheres section of the Tour (usually done from Rouze area to Ax) so we'll have to figure out the best strategy.

Great info for the restaurants and sites. Much appreciated. Off to research more...

and yes forecast is looking better! We are hoping to get to Peyreperteuse in the next couple of days....

All three restaurants (Atalaya, Planes, Pierre Lys) are part of a hotel. Puigcerda (across the border) has no shortage of hotels including a 5* (Villa Paulita - spa and excellent restaurant).
