Quieter location in Prague
 

We'll be in Prague in early May - after May Day - and want to be near the center but not in a place with noisy bars and clubs. Also want to avoid stag, hen partiers. We usually rent apartments, but would consider a hotel.
We're a mature couple, experienced travelers, but one is a light sleeper. Can't walk comfortably for more than 1,000 feet but happy to use public transportation.
Thanks for any advice based on your experience.

Stare Mesto ( The Old Town ) district tends to be noisier, especially around The Old Town Square, the Wenceslas Square and the Royal Road from The Old Town Square to the Charles Bridge, all the main tourist routes. Above recommended Savic 5* is also in Stare Mesto but slightly off the busy route so may not be bad at all. I would have no problem staying there. I did consider it once when I found a very good rate for its category but finally stayed at one of my usuals in Mala Strana. My usuals are located in Mala Strana district that's underneath the Castle and across the Charles Bridge from Stare Mesto side. Mala Strana is also old town, as old I suppose, as "Stare Mesto" if not older. There are nice hotels just by the foot of the bridge that others recommend here ( like The Three Ostrich ?). I stay usually at one of Roma 4*, Residence Mala Strana 3* or Asto 3*. All good in its own way. I have stayed more often at Residence Mala Strana, cheaper (than Roma), rooms spaceous enough, breakfast good, free internet ( wifi and one computer at the reception). Roma has all and of better quality but more expensive being 4*. To tell you how “cheap”, this Christmas I paid at R.M.S. €30 per night for a double room single use. This is their lowest season rate. The tram stop is Ujezd. Less than a minute walk from each hotel. Many lines stop there including the ones to the other side of the river, Stare Mesto. Very practical. To the Castle is an uphill walk. If it’s hard for you, you can also take tram No.22 that will take you up to the area behind the castle. There you can from down to the castle and to Charles Bridge. Also from the hotels, Charles Bridge is about 7 minutes walk ( or 2 tram stop ride to Malostranske Square and 1 minute walk.) You can buy transport pass of 24hrs, 72hrs, etc at airport. (DO NOT forget to validate the pass with the machine the first time you use it or you might face a hefty fine + unpleasant confrontation with the inspectors).

Thanks, Kappa1. I'll look into your suggestions. I also found something in the Old Jewish Quarter, on Parizska street and the area looks like it's quiet at night.

Trying to stay below euro125 per night.

I've stayed in a couple hotels that were very quiet in Old Town, which is a huge area. It depends on the hotel, how big it is, the position of your room and where in Old Town as to the noise. But mine were budget hotels so wouldn't be in that budget. But I stayed in the HOtel Pariz, for example, right near Powder Gate and it was extremely quiet. The only areas I would think would be pretty sure to be noisy would be if you had a hotel right on the square or in those small crowded streets right near the bridge where all the tourists are walking right there.


Parizska is a big major luxury shopping street, but if the hotel is really north on it, I suppose it will be quiet enough. I presume this isn't the Continental in that budget, and I don't like that location, anyway (the ICC). That street has upscale shops and restaurants, I'm surprised any budget hotel could be on it.

Actually it's an apartment, pretty spacious and near the synagogue. A bit dated, but looks comfortable. Since it's our first visit to Prague, don't want to venture too far afield. If it was Barcelona or Paris, cities we know well, we'd be more adventurous.

How about Hotel Kampa in Mala Strana. Quiet with a great breakfast. Might be part of the Best Western group.

We loved staying in the Mala Strana area. Just a block from the bridge but extremely quiet. Loved it.

I think you may find quite a bit of foot traffic in the area,The Kampa park area is nearby for a real quiet spot in the city .several good resturant/bars there.You are close to Charles Bridge and all the main tourist sites are walkable though I would suugest you get the no22 tram up the hill to the castle.I would suggest you take the tram 2 stops past the actual castle stop to Pohorelec,this is the stop for the Strahov Monastry (well worth a visit),if you walk downhill from there you pass the Loretto Building too.It is about a 400 yard gentle downhill walk to the castle.
