Quiet hotel room in Rome City Centre?

We are traveling to Rome in July and my wife and I are light sleepers. We are looking for a hotel in the center of the city that offers a quiet room…underscore quiet. Does anyone have any suggestions? Budget is $350-$400 euros/night. Thanks!!

We liked the Sofitel very much. It is located close to the Spanish Steps (which is considered the city center) in a quiet side street next to the park of Villa Borghese.

It has charming rooms and beautiful bathrooms.

Rome is not a quiet city. Bring earplugs and maybe a white noise machine. Or stay away from the historic center.

I think the replies recommending a hotel like Sofitel are probably very good as smaller hotels just have no soundproofing. I would say unless you can verify the location relative to other apartments etc. that apartment buildings will be very noisy and not a good choice. I am very noise sensitive and therefore need to be careful what I book .

We stayed here several years ago. VERY nice place on the Spanish Steps (literally) and VERY quite. Faces the Spanish Steps (top half) but with double pained/insuluated windows noise is not a problem.Owned by Hotel Hassler so you have access to all services there (including a scrumptous breakfast--included in the price. Small hotel with a front desk that is only staff for part of the day (Hassler about 1/2 block away). Great rooms, walk-in closet, and large bathroom with shower and tub. Highly recommend. We have stayed a number of times at Residenza Canali ai Coronari. It's on a pedestrian street (with lots of antiques stores) about 1 1/2 blocks from Piazza Navona. There may have been noise, but I don't remember hearing any, either from vehicles on the street (taxis are allowed on the street to delivery passengers, and certain other cars) or people.

I agree with the post above that says Rome is not a quiet city. Many hotels have soundproofing and/or double glazed windows, but if that's not good enough for you, definitely bring ear plugs.

My favorite hotel in Rome is Albergo Del Senato, just across a tiny street from The Pantheon. It's hard to beat that location for exploring Rome. We've never had a problem sleeping there, despite the fact that the hotel is on the Piazza Rotunda, a square full of trattorias, gelaterias (!), etc.

See RonInRome.com about anything about Rome. It's written by an Atlanta ex-pat living in Rome.
Another great source of rooms is Booking.com. I also use TripAdvisor to read about comments on rooms I'm looking at on Booking.com.
I've also used AirBnB.com for lesser priced accommodations.

I also love Albergo del Senato and have not had trouble sleeping there--or anywhere in the center. I am a light sleeper but take Tylenol PM to combat jet lag and have a white noise app on my iPad. The Minerve, near the Albergo del Senato, is another good choice, perhaps above your budget. If you book Albergo del Senato, try to get a room with a view of the Pantheon. Otherwise, you can enjoy the view from the rooftop bar.

We stayed at the Hotel Isa while in Rome! It was recommended by Ira, on this site and it didn't disappoint. Noise wasn't a problem, and the price was within your budget, although we were travelling in Sept. Location was great and we managed a private tour with Rome Connections. Good luck and happy travels. Oh, BTW the breakfast included was to die for on the rooftop!

Hotel Capo d'Africa is in a really quiet street in a quiet neighborhood just around the corner from the Colosseum. But I'm not sure if it fits your budget.
