quiet and uncrowded holiday destination
 

I want to travel to a quiet and peaceful place preferably in Europe in July.I'm a solo traveller and I don't want touristy places with so many people around.Where would you recommend?

Well July and Augsust is the summer in Europe, and like everywhere, kids are out of school, so you are not only contending with out of country tourists, but of course all the locals go on holidays too.. so I suggest if you really want peace and quiet you not go to Europe in July or August.

Or find a remote village somewhere in eastern europe.

If a place is beautiful, or has a special site to see, then of course other tourists are going to be there, and if someone on this board recommends a site to you then it pretty well guarantees other tourists will be there, since this is a public board.

You know , just because other tourists are at a site, does not make the site less interesting or important.

Best bet, go in the winter months .

Lower Engadin: Scuol, Sent, Guarda or any of the other towns

By the way, there are not crowds everywhere in Europe. There are certainly no crowds in my little town in Switzerland. The idea of a remote village is very good.

schuler's correct, daisy. Find a small village in Switzerland. Public transportation will facilitate your day excursions to better known places (if you care to visit them). Get a good map and then google image search tiny places that are not mentioned here. There are likely to be excellent choices in many countries of Europe. I favor Switzerland particularly because it is so different from where I live and because the excellent rail, bus, boat connections make solo travel so comfortable. J.

St-Cirq is remote and quiet at all times of year, but we don't have accommodations for tourists, so....tant pis.

Just about anywhere in Europe there are tiny villages that aren't overrun with tourists. I'd just pick whatever country you're most interested in, rent a car, and get as far away from civilization as you can. If France interests you, I'd head for the Lozère or the Cévennes.

If you would like to "take up residence" for a bit, I wholeheartedly recommend Untours. The village of Reuti (in the Hasliberg region) in Switzerland and Pfarrwerfen in Austria are two places that I can personally recommend; they're certainly not full of tourists, but the infrastructure is there for you to get to some amazing sites pretty easily. www.untours.com

Switzerland

I agree with the other posters on Switzerland. The place that comes to mind is Rapperswil on Lake Zurich.

Switzerland is a great idea. I would also recommend Northern Czech Republic.

Parts of Austria are also tourist free in July.
