Quick trip to Spain in November
 

I was hoping I could get some advice from the forum members about a quick trip to Spain in November. My daughter will be studying in Seville at the University in the fall and I would like to visit her. I was thinking of flying into Madrid and taking the train to Seville.
Madrid - arrive tuesday, travel to Seville
Seville - tues, weds, thurs nights
Bus or train to Costa del Sol or Cadiz for a quick weekend get-a-way?
Back to Seville Sunday night and then on to Madrid to fly home, tuesday.
Is this a reasonable trip and does anyone have suggestions for hotels for me.
Any advice on the weather that time of year? I'm not even sure this will work, but any and all advice will be very welcomed!

Mench: I found that <b>Las Casas de la Juderia</b> was most typical of what one would expect of an inviting "Spanish style" hotel...in the heart of Barrio Santa Cruz, easy walking to most sights in beautiful Sevilla. Rooms are good-sized, excellent buffet breakfast. Fall would be comfortable weather generally. I've been to the country both in spring and fall...never in summer (ugh). Here are some scanned pics of Holy Week in Sevilla. As a solo, I think you would be happy with the location.

For something a bit more comfortable, and far more upscale, you can check out the Alma Sevilla, a former palace which sits just across the street from Las Casas de la Juderia. The costs are nearly identical (www.almasevilla.com) in November.

Check tripadvisor hotel reviews, Casas de la Juderia, Murillo, Amadeus are all very good. If you're from the U.S. I would go to Cadiz if you're from the U.K., the costa del sol. (Actually I would go to Granada over both).

TA reviews tend to be questionable at best. For decent reviews you can check booking.com

We went in November 07 and the weather was perfect throughout. Always, sunny, mostly around 70F (a little cooler in Ronda). Long pants, a combination of short and long sleeve shirts for daytime, and a sweater or very light jacket for evenings will pretty much cover you.

Don't hesitate to look into flying all the way to Seville, particularly since it sounds like you aren't spending anytime in Madrid. Often the price isn't that much different and can eliminate the hassle. The train station is about a 40 minute ride from the airport.

In fact, I suspect flying RT to Seville will be actually be cheaper than the the cost of flying to Madrid plus a round trip train fare from Madrid to Seville.

Probably quicker too.

I was hoping to take a side trip with my daughter on the weekend, any suggestions in that area? I was in Spain 30 years ago, I have been to the Alhambra and I am sure she will have visited it while she's studying there, we just need a quick fun side trip. Help?

We did an overnight in Cordoba but definitely easy to do as a daytrip. I think train ride is less than an hour from Seville. I suspect your daughter will probably do with friends, but if you haven't been worth it to see the Mezquita. Also, our favorite meal of the whole trip was at Taberna Salinas (Calle de Tundidores, 3). Be sure and have some of the Cordoban specialties there like salmorejo, fried aubergines with honey and marinated anchovies.

Wonderful Córdoba, once the most advanced city in the western world, is only a 50 min ride from Sevilla with the high speed AVE train. http://www.guardian.co.uk/spanish-to...-changed-world

And I love Málaga, the capital of the Costa del Sol. Genuine Andalusian atmosphere, fabulous museums, sights, cafés, bars, restaurants etc. 2h with train from Sevilla. A couple of articles about one of my absolute favourite cities in Spain after 25 years of intensive travelling in the country:
