I'm about to purchase a one-way ticket on Vueling.com. For those of you who have done it, did you buy it with a debit card or credit card? They're charging €6,50 fee for credit card purchases but none for debit card. I've always put charges on CC and rarely do a debit card purchase, so I want to see what your experiences have been. Thanks.

CC gets charged at the end of the month or depending on the specific arrangments you have with your bank.
And Debit cards are charged right away, the same day or day after directly into your account.
Debit cards are cheaper for the dealer.
I personally prefer debit cards so I do not get too many surprises at the end of the month as quantities are already charged.

I purchased a ticket from Vueling for this summer, one way, Paris - Rome.

I used my CC as they you have some protection , and on my card some insurance anyways. Plus I do usaully use my debit card , but I couldn't figure out how that would work online as I have only every used it in person.

Problem I had ( and serveral other posters I talk with on another board) is that Vueling kept rejecting my CC. They said it was my bank. I contacted my bank and they said baloney, their bank had no record of Vueling even attempting to put a charge through.
This went on for days. I emailed Vueling, they were polite and emailed back, at one point finally sujesting I send my CC info to them via email and they would put charge through manually. I said no as email is non secure. This went back and forth. Finally I just used hubbys card and his worked. I have no idea. I was not near my limit, my bank was fully aware I was making international purchases( I had used my card to book hotels in Rome and Paris, and had bought ohter airline tickets with it) and this scenerio played out with other posters ( which is a releif as I though maybe my card was jinxed, LOL ) .

I got the ticket a good price the airline has good reveiws for a lo cost line, and I like the airposts I will be using. So it was worth the hassle.

I am having the same problem with Vueling for the past few days. I tried my 2 credit cards, my husband cc, my friend cc (are coming on the trip with us) with no success!! Don't know what to do. Our cc say the same thing- that there is no problem on there end?? Any other suggestions

Gosh, wish I could help, I mean I went through this for a few days myself, and I HAD tried my hubbys card on first day and it didn't work then. I just kept trying, and as I said contacted Vueling twice, but finally , on like my 50th try, it just "went through" .. I really have no idea why. I remember having trouble with the code on the back of the card, I mean their site only accepted 4 digits I think, and most sites that ask for the security code only ask for last 3,, but , there are 9 digits altogether, so I just kept fiddling about. It was frustrating, and it did help that others on tripadvisor.com and ricksteves.com forums had also had similar problems.

I have always the same problem when I book tickets with Vueling or Easyjet!!

They say that they don't charge anything for debit cards but my debit card is always rejected, though I do have money in my account. So, I have always been forced to pay the charge of the ticket just to be able to get the ticket, paying with cc!!

I think it's a tactic they have to make more money.....

We aren't talking about using a debit card but a credit card.
I am not sure how one uses a debit card in Europe. Here one must present the card in person, and enter a PIN( Personal Identification Number) into the machine, so I am confused about how one can use a debit card online?? Are they even the same thing we are talking about, here a debit card is a card that allows access to your bank account, to your chequeing and or savings accounts. It is not preloaded with money .

Last I checked the Easyjet site warned that only 2 kinds of euro-network debit cards were accepted. That and the unfavorable handling of CC makes sense for low-margin operations... don't you know CC's take a large percentage commission (how else do they share 2% with you?) and there is fraud and other charges affecting even debit.

You know, my transaction went thru w/o a hitch (using a Mastercard CC). I guess I'm just lucky.

yk, are you using a American or Canadian CC, or a UK one?

I used a US Mastercard (Citibank) and it went through on my first try.

I also used the card to buy concert tickets in Barcelona, bus ticket in Granada etc. Never got blocked and never even got a call from the company inquiring about "suspicious activity."

Maybe I should worry about this card not being too good when it comjes to fraud!

Okay guys.. after 2 emails to customer service I just got a note back saying there were having problems with their server in accepting US Mastercard and Visa. Their IT dept is "working on it". I went ahead and bought a calling card and called them over the phone. Was able to book over the phone with no problems!! Just in time to as I notice the Fare has gone up today

Here in Spain we use it exactly the same as a credit card, only difference is that with debit card they get your money right away Mine is also from Visa as the credit one (Visa Electron).

So iti s our CC that are different, I have no PIN for my CC but do for a debit card, , I can use a CC over the phone or online with out scanning it or giving a PIN, whereas I cannnot just my debit card that way, it must be scanned and the a 4 digit PIN must be entered into the machine. Since the PIN is secret you would never give it out over the phone or online.

A few of my bills I pay online allow me to choose Debit or CC. I enter the exact same card number, but if I select debit it comes directly from my account, unlike CC charges which take a few days to clear. The most recent time I remember is on the CA DMV website. Oh...and this is an American card.
