Quick Greece Ferry Question
So the schedules for early June from Piraeus to Samos are finally published! I know early June isn't high season yet and I probably don't need to book now if I just want a seat or a standard cabin - but should I book this early if I want a nicer, outside deck cabin? Way until early-mid May before I leave? Or should I just wait until I get to Crete about a week ahead of time and go into a travel agency to book then?
Is there still a chance another ship/tine might be added to this route? Thanx! |
That was "wait" until early-mid may - and "ship/time" - guess I should have previewed before posting:)

You can go ahead and book now if you wish, but I have a feeling there will be a change of ship from what is currently listed. If you have specific requirements, i.e. the outside cabin, it doesn't hurt to book early. Ierapetra is a winter replacement for Nissos Mykonos, which normally does the run. Nissos Mykonos is a larger and more modern vessel, so hopefully that will be the one you get. I have used Nissos Mykonos, but only in the VIP lounge rather than a cabin. :-)

Thank you Heimdall!
I think I will try to be patient for just a bit longer - but will probably book before I leave! |
Funny enough - or actually not so funny for me - there isn't a ferry scheduled for June 4th - although there are ones on Mondays up until 5/28 and then starting again on 6/11 - but nothing on 6/04!

hm.... i can see what is coming next...
something with a propeller? |
June 4th is Holy Spirit Day (Pentecost), but most ferries run on that holiday. That aroused my curiosity, so I checked the Greek Mercantile Marine data base, and sure enough, no sailing to Samos on Holy Spirit Day (June 13th) in 2011, but sailings on the previous and subsequent Mondays.
I had forgotten about the propeller issue. Good luck! ;-) |
Oh No :( :( :(

Ha Ha Clausar - not happening.
I can replace the ferry with the direct flight from Athens to Izmir and then replace my "two-flight" trip from Izmir to Kayseri with a direct flight and it ends up being the same number of flights! All on airplanes with no propellers! |
