Quick daytrip from Munich

We will be in Munich in September. We'd like to make a quick trip somewhere for a day and a half (leave A.M., spend night, return to Munich in the evening). I can't seem to find any of those cheap airfares out of the Munich airport. Do any of the cheap airlines fly out of Munich NONSTOP to other destinations? I've found some one stops, but they're absurdly high and take half a day with the layover. We'd also entertain the idea of train or car, but don't want to spend too much time in travel mode due to the quick turnaround.
Thanks

There are several nice driving trips from Munich that would work for you. Driving isn't at all difficult once you're out of Munich. A couple of possibilities:

1. Drive to Chiemsee and visit Ludwig's Herrenchiemsee palace--a little Versailles.

2. Drive to Hohenschwagau and see Hohenschwangau and Neuschwanstein castles.

Both trips have interesting things to see and do along the way; e.g., on trip 2 you could stop at famous spots like Oberammergau and Linderhof, or various interesting towns along the route if you get off of the Autobahn before it terminates north of Garmisch.

These are only two easy drives--there are many other possibilities (Augsburg, the Romantic Road, etc.).

Salzburg by train.

The above trips are good suggestions.
In a day and a half you could go several places. There are cities in Germany like Nürmberg and Augsburg.

As for cheap airflights, where dob you want to go? EasyJet has a flight to Stanstead Airport. Aer Lingus has a flight to Dublin.

There may be others. Those are two routes I have flown.

Another thought is renting a car and driving the Romantic Road spending the night in Rothenburg. There is probably a bus from Munich to Rothenburg but with a car you could check out other towns/sites along the way.

I agree with the posts above that recommend the Bavarian Alps and Ludwig's castles or Salzburg, however, EasyJet flys out of Munich and you could go to London or any number of other cities.
