Booked a Runnerbean Old City tour! For those of you who have done this, what is an appropriate tip? We've never done a free walking tour before.

We saw people give 5e, we gave 20e I think ( it could have been 30e) it's very very good and we went past a couple of bars that we the went to on the night that we would never have found.....

Very helpful Smeagol! Thanks.

We booked the Tablao Cordobes for our first night (after our nap ;) )

kwren Feb 5th, 2017 12:13 PM

I haven't booked any of the Gaudi sites yet (hope it's not too late!) I really don't like scheduling every minute. You never know when you want to stop for wine!

Would it be too much to do all 3 in one day? I know that Segraga Familia could take a while, but what about the 2 houses? An hour each?

kwren Feb 5th, 2017 12:19 PM

Sorry for another question!

I see there are 2 towers for the Sagrada Fam - the Nativity and the Passion.
Any recommendations for which one to choose? I assume going up one would be enough to satisfy me?

danon Feb 5th, 2017 12:23 PM

too much is in the eye of the beholder

the two houses are minutes from each other
SF is a metro ride from there( definitely book tickets for SF)

kwren Feb 5th, 2017 12:36 PM

sounds good danon - thanks!

kja Feb 5th, 2017 02:43 PM

All 3? There are more than 3 Guadi sites... Sagrada Familia, Casa Batlló, Casa Mila, Palau Guell, and Parc Guell.

I chose the Nativity Tower; no regrets, No need to do both.

These people earn their livings doing these tours and they don't get to keep it all. Unless the person is awful or super excellent, 10 euros pp is good, or 15.

Hope you have/have had a great Tablao Cordobés night!

kwren Feb 7th, 2017 01:26 PM

Kimhe - best recommendation of the day! The Tablao de Cordobes was fantastic! I'm glad we did the dinner, not because the food was great (unfortunately, much of it wasn't although there were a few which were delicious!), but because we got to sit in the first row, exactly in the middle. Not only did I see every stomp of the foot, but I could feel the vibration going right through me. Such strength in that dancing. I'm surprised they didn't blast through the stage floor! I wish I understood Spanish so I could have known what they were singing about and dancing to, but not knowing allowed my imagination to run wild!

Need paella help please!

Plenty of places sell paella but since we are so limited in time we would like to try one of the best! We probably don't have time to run all over to specific restaurants so if a few of you have recommendations for your favorite and if we happen to be in the vicinity we would like to give it a try. Any recommendations?

kja Feb 7th, 2017 04:32 PM

Although only kimhe or another expert can explain the difference, I mistook the "dirty rice" at the Restaurant 7 Portes for paella, and an extraordinary one at that!

MaineGG Feb 7th, 2017 04:47 PM

We really enjoyed the paella Parellada at Set Portes. The servings were huge and we should have shared one. 7portes.com

Another vote for Set Portes, excellent paella and other rice dishes. An institution in town (from 1836) and the best atmosphere. http://7portes.com/en/

And glad to hear you had a great experience at Tablao Cordobés. The gathering of Farru and Pastora Galván and the Farruco and Galván families is a special flamenco event, it was even mentioned and recommended on the fb-page of the Peña flamenca Noruega yesterday with the comment, "Should have been there!" and a link to this video from the two in Tablao Cordobés last Wednesday: https://www.facebook.com/tablaocordo...5339523845207/

Thanks for the help and advice everyone. Barcelona was wonderful!

I started my trip report! It might take a while while I design our new home and start my French exchange student job, but you can find it here:

Was there supposed to be a link?

kwren Mar 8th, 2017 02:09 AM

Yes, that would be a good idea!
