Queston on Picking up Tickets at the Alhambra
 

When I purchased my Alhambra tickets online I noticed this when I was reading about picking them up:

"The tickets bought with a card that was not issued in Spain can only be collected in the ticket office at the venue, where you should present the card you used to make your purchase and an official identity document."

Since I bought this with a US credit card. I guess I have to go to the window to get the tickets, as opposed to the automated machines. And I have to present an "official identity document."
Does this mean I have to bring my actual passport with me? Or will a photocopy suffice?
Would they accept a US drivers licence?

Do you have a problem with using your passport as ID?

When we visited the Alhambra we had to pick up tickets at the window that was reserved for folks who had booked on line. I honestly cannot remember whether I had to show my passport or not but realistically, I know that a driver's license probably isn't as valuable and as necessary for foreign travel as your passport is but safeguarding that document isn't as difficult as some people seem to think it is IMO.

I am honestly sorry I cannot be of more help or reassurance but a passport is a pretty reliable document; some drivers licenses are not and if you are dealing with someone in another country who isn't used to seeing a drivers license used as proof, well....

I don't have a problem using my passport as ID. But I don't like carrying it around with me. I prefer to leave it in the hotel room safe and carry a photocopy of the passport instead.
Just wondering if they will accept that.

Also, when I google this, it seems I am getting confused as to whether or not I will need to present any ID at all. Some places say that I CAN use the machines and just swipe the credit card I bought the tickets with.

I was there last month and collected our tx's at the machine (US citizen). I would suppose if you had to go to the window the important part would be the exact credit card and that matching they wouldn't even bother with the id. Enjoy..it's beautiful...even better with a guide.

We visited around the first of April. US citizens with cc also from the US. We went to the small glass enclosed (so the machines are visible from outside) building with our credit card which was used to purchase the tickets. We also had our printed receipt. We had trouble with the machine (as I recall, there wasn't any English translation on the one we were directed to) but the guard helped us and the tickets were issued with only the credit card. To reach this building you walk past the ticket windows where people walk up to buy on that day.

I used my US (Suntrust) credit card at the ticket machine about 6 months ago. No problem.

BTW, aren't ALL machines automated?

Well I booked with a foreign CC for May 16th so wait for a first-hand report then.

By the way a question for people who had already been there: wanted to book 2 tickets for the night visit, having read all these raving reviews about the illuminated Alhambra. Unfortunately there was just one more ticket left - so I promptly grabbed this last ticket which will be used by DW. I would like to be close by when she does the visit. Will I be able to accompany her part of the way? Will there be a suitable meeting point where I can wait to meet her after she gets out?
