questions re: AVE from Madrid to Sevilla

My daughter is returning to Spain in a couple of weeks and I'm trying to help her out with AVE information. We've had difficulty on the RENFE site. Does anyone know if I have a ticket on a 9 AM AVE from Madrid to Sevilla and miss the train due to delays at airport, etc., can I stand by for the next train/Ave with that ticket, and if the next train is more expensive can I just pay the diference? Also, if the RENFE site says the train is sold out, can I stand by? Thank you.

Put angst to rest and just buy the AVE ticket upon arrival in Madrid - just go to Atocha Station and buy your ducat -so many trais no problem usually getting on -if you could book confentally on Renfe site then fine but they choose to make it difficult for foreigners to get the online discounts

So just buy in Madrid.

moraben,

If you do not make your train, it is your complete loss.
If the train is sold out, it is sold out - all seating is paid for, whether someone appears or not.

Better yet - buy the ticket at the airport Renfe counter and avoid any lines at Atocha.
