Questions on travel throughout EU
 

Hello to all: I'm traveling to EU for the better part of April- flying into Amsterdam 8-10, than flying down to Barcelona until the 16th when I fly into Rome. From here I was going to do ROME 16-18th, Rome to Florence 19-21, and then FLR to Venice on 22nd, not needing to be back in Amsterdam until 24-25th, so trying to determine best and most feasible mode for getting from back to Amsterdam, or a suggestion in Italy further North (to avoid backtracking) that is a must see. Have never been to the Amalfi Coast or Pompeii, but not sure where they are in relation to Venice, or accessibility to Amsterdam from these points. Any insight, suggestions or feedback would be so helpful.

Well flying RT to Amsterdam is a really bad idea - open jaws into Amsterdam and out of Italy would make much more sense.

And I'm rally confused about how much time you have where since you are counting the same days for two different places as well as travle between the two.

As far as I can tell you have:

Amsterdam 1.5 days
Barceloma 5 days
Rome 2 days
Florence 3 days
Venice 1 or 2 days

When DO you need to get back to Amsterdam and is there any chance to return home form Venice?

You already are bouncing around a lot - adding more places is a very bad idea - as it is you will be spending a lot of your time in airports and train stations versus sightseeing.

If you are not sure where Pompeii and the Amalfi coast are in relation to Venice you really should consult http://maps.Google.com

The Italy portion of your trip is already too compressed; don't think of adding anything else. If you have an extra day, I would give it to Rome. Two days is not nearly enough time for Rome, unless you're willing to skip several of the places that most visitors say absolutely must be seen.

Do you know what you want to do in these three Italian cities? I don't understand how you arrived at the division of time.

Traveling from South to North in italy, as not to backtrack, and to be in Florence over the weekend for the nightlife. Getting back to AMS is a must before the 26th as I am trying to celebrate the festival of King's Day. My final departure leaving Europe is out of Paris which is why I have the standing flight on the 28th.

Though I agree that 2 days is not enough for any destination, I was trying to do the best that I could in checking out all of the sights in 22 days.

Any suggestions for best way to get from Venice to Amsterdam, or should I schedule Venice first after Rome, before Florence (which feels like backtracking)?? Thanks again

I'm not trying to be snarky, honest, but a guidebook will really help you. Naples would be the closest airport.

I'm not sure what nightlife you're looking for in Florence, but it's a busy enough city to have something going on during the week.

Well if you have to be in Amsterdam near the end why fly into there? Why not fly into Rome or Naples and move north from there - ending in Amsterdam - or Paris if necessary.

You're really bouncing around a lot and wasting a lot of time just getting from one place to another. And not sure why night life in Florence on a weekend - any major city has night life any night.

If you can you should definitely fly into Barcelona, fly to Rome, train to Florence, train to Venice and then fly to Amsterdam. Add at least another day to Rome.
