Questions for kerouac and other Parisians

Just back last night from France and will post a report soon. But these questions are burning in my mind.

Why does a cat in a Paris pet store cost 3800 euro? We saw some for more, but not many for less. I would think alot of people would get in the "cat" business!

There's a song we heard over and over again on the radio in Paris. The words, "Where you gonna sleep tonight" are repeated alot. We tried to look it up, but I guess that isn't the name of it.

Silly questions, I agree, but I'm still a little jet lagged and Fodorites seem to know everything!

Could this be it? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wIM0HtCL7KY

A trick I learned from my daughter: to identify a song, type the lyrics you know into Google and add the word "lyrics" (for a French song, type "paroles").

Nikki----that's it "This is the Life" Amy MacDonald. Fodorites really do know everything! Maybe we should work on world peace!!!

Now about those overpriced cats.

BTW, MDH laughed when I asked about that song with just a few lyrics. He's not laughing now,he's impressed.

According to Wikipedia she is Scottish and this song comes from her debut album. It was very successful in a number of European countries. Her voice sounded Irish to me and this re her singing voice has been remarked on by others.

Nikki, you always impress me with your knowledge.
For some reason, I can't get the sound on your link. I tested my sound on the hallmark cards and it's ok there???

why would the French be playing an English song over and over when most or many claim not to speak/unerstand English ? - hmm - the thought comes to me.

Did you see anybody actually buying the cat?

(Actually, that sort of price appeals to tourists from the Gulf.)

They play lots of sons with English lyrics in Paris, they are very multi-cultural in terms of pop music, and some French singers sing in English at times (like Camille). I don't think most of them claim to not speak or understand English, either, that just isn't true, at least not in Paris. Most of them like speaking English, they do it at the drop of a hat in Paris even when you don't ask them to.

We didn't see anyone buying the cats, but there were 3 or 4 pet stores with cats & dogs at that price. We were walking along the right bank of The Seine from The Louvre to Ile St. Louis. There were many Siamese cats(which are like our cats, except ours were free at the shelter). I guess there's a buyer for everything!

Nikki---I love the way to identify the song on Google through the lyrics. You learn something new every day!

TPAYT, you really just answered your own question! Look at the neighborhood(s) you were walking through -- some of the most expensive real estate in France.
