virgi, this map of the arrondisements and a brief description of each area might be helpful to you:

As you can see, the lower numbered arr. (1-8) are closer to most of the tourist sights.

sensible shoes can save a vacation... i never walk more anywhere than on a trip in Europe. dress fashionable with your clothes up top, but for a happy trip take a couple pair of shoes that won't hurt your feet if you walk all day long.

Cheryllj: Thank you very much for that map link that's exactly what I needed to understand the districts. I made a copy of it and will book accordingly. By the way I'm skipping Reims and will book a 'quaint' area near Paris for 2 days, before I go on to Germany for the last 7 days of my trip. Denisparis thanks for that suggestion. I'm so excited I just hope my left heel gets better before I go. I did to much to fast in D.C. last week.

I am from Florida too. I go to Paris every year. Dress exactly the way you would dress if you went to New York City in the Fall. I take nice black slacks, black sweater set, comfy but stylish shoes, a trench coat. Also a nice black turtle neck. Go to an inexpensive store [Ross is great] and buy a couple of long scarves. No high heels. And don't forget socks appropriate for you shoes. That is all you need and you can go everywhere.

Here's a site that tells you what to expect for weather: http://uk.weather.com/weather/local/...&code=code&y=9.

I like staying in the Latin Quarter. Here's a link to an inexpensive but totally adequate hotel: http://www.hotel-desmines-paris.com/english/main.htm

and a site to find others: http://www.charming-paris.com/. Bon Voyage!
