Questions about Lyon, France
We are traveling with another couple in June 2009. We are starting in Italy and finishing our travels in France. The plan, right now, is to stay 3 days in Lyon where my friend has a friend we can stay with. Then we will be off to Paris for 3 days before returning home.
My questions: I know nothing about Lyon. What are your suggestions for things to do/see in Lyon or the area? Does 3 days seem to be a reasonable length of time in Lyon? |
Anyone ???

3 days seems fine, I think even 2 could work.
I could list the main sites of Lyon for you, but you can easily find them in any regular guidebook or on their website, and you'd get more complete and detailed information. Is there some reason you won't use those resources? Lyon is a big city so has pretty comprehensive websites: this is the city's website www.lyon.fr this is the tourist office http://www.en.lyon-france.com/ |
Thanks. I have found it better to get the personal opinions. I will check out the sites.

travel, we loved our stay in Lyon.
You can easily fill three days there without a problem. Between the Gallo-Roman ruins, the traboules, a river cruise and Old Lyon our days were so full we never got inside the Basilica de Fourviere. I'm planning on using that "missed visit" as an enticement to revisit a beautiful city ;;) An excellent value is the purchase of a multi day Lyon visitor pass which included tours, metro and museums when we were there in August 06. Hope you enjoy Lyon as much as we did. Deborah |
Yes I think that 3 days is just right for Lyon. There are plenty of things to do in the city - lots of options for museums, walks, enjoying the architecture, visiting markets, shopping, people watching and, of course, eating!
You might benefit from a Lyon Citycard, which you can buy at the tourist office (place Bellecour) for one, two or three days, and gives access to the main museums, free public transport, guided walks, a boat cruise, and various discounts. For some reason I can't get the Lyon tourist office website to load on my browser, but if you Google Lyon City Card you should find more info. I have posted lots of info on Lyon in the past. Here are a few threads to get you started: http://www.fodors.com/forums/threads...p;tid=34896365 http://www.fodors.com/forums/threads...p;tid=35070869 http://www.fodors.com/forums/threads...p;tid=34937905 http://www.fodors.com/forums/threads...p;tid=35086579 |
Thanks so much. This helps a lot.
