I haven't seen mention of it anywhere else, but we went on the Aristocratic London Pub Walk with London Walks some years ago, and we loved it. As others said, most of the time was spent on informative touring of the area, and it was great, as were the friendly pub stops where we talked with others on the walk. If this tour is available, I recommend it. Ditto for Legal London, especially if anyone loves Dickens or Trollope, this one is a "must do."

I'm going on two Walks: The Secrets of Westminster Abbey and Old Westminster 1,000 Years of History. They sound pretty good, so I'm excited. Their website is really helpful. www.walks.com

We've been on many of the London Walks - we try to do one or two each trip. The very first one we went on was the Along the Thames walk, but it only lasted two hours and we visited 3 pubs (Blackfriars, a modern Young's pub and the Anchor) and ended up at the George Inn. I've never been on any of the regular walks that lasted more than 2 hours. This must have changed since we first took the walk. Maybe we should take it again. :-)
And I think it's safe to say that the crowd will be large for the Ripper walk - especially if you go on a "Donald" night. I think this one has become a victim of it's own popularity. |
THANK YOU, EVERYONE!! We were gone for a couple of days and I came back to so many helpful replies about the London Walks. They all sound so interesting! We will try to go on the Thames walk if we can. I will post here about it afterward if we go.
Thanks again, fellow Fodorites! Ginny |
THE INNS OF COURT - Legal & Illegal London one is rather good because it takes you into parts of London that you wouldn't normally visit.
The Inns of Court are quiet oases. You can forget that you are in a bustling modern city. |
I'm glad MissPrism mentioned "The Inns of Court" walk, as my daughter and I are planning to take that one next week when we are in London. We also hope to do "Shakespeare's London" and "The Secrets of Westminster Abbey," as well as one or two of the evening walks. I hope they are as good as everybody says they are!
