You are counting on your train running on time. They often don't (I've had trains run 1 1/2 hours late). You would have to catch the train in Rome at 10:52 to FCO which wouldn't get you there until 11:23. You still have to trek from the train station to the terminal, go through security, etc. You might make it. Or not.
What price are you paying for your hostel? There are hostels in Rome (and lots of convents). |
Italy also has train strikes fairly often. There's no way I would put myself in such a stressful situation. I would make sure I was in a Rome hotel (or a convent) the night before my flight and then have a leisurely hour or two wandering around a few favourite sites before heading to the airport.

Thanks, everyone, for your help with putting this in perspective...of course Murphy's Law has an Italian counterpart! So since I'm moving my last night to Rom, can anyone recommend specific hostels or nunneries that wouldn't cost more than 40Euros for 2 people, have SOME kind of ambiance or simple sweetness, and are near something interesting or Termini?
We had a great private room at Ostello Cortona (looks like part of a medieval monastery) for only 42Euros, and that was us hitting the end of our trip budget!! |
On the train vs bus to Siena question, the bus is over by Tiburtina station too. We decided to take the Sena bus and found out after the fact the bus drops you off in the upper part of Siena, whereas the train station is at the bottom of the hill. You have to catch a bus or take a cab from the train station to get up to Siena. It's one of those no one tells you these things topics.

Not near Termini, but closer to Trastevere train station (you can get the local train from Trastevere to the airport for 8€). An all women's hostel in your price range. http://www.casainternazionaledelledo...esteria_uk.htm |
