Questions about Hotel Masson

I'm considering Hotel Masson for 3 or 4 nights in August but am wondering just how far off the beaten path it is. I've already reserved the Golf hotel for those nights but am trying to save a bit of money. Does anyone know how far it would be from the railroad station, restaurants, pubs, etc? I've read there's a convenient bus stop but just wondering if there were things near by we could walk to (other than the castle). Thanks!

Let us know what city/country that is ...

Hi CollK,

This is Montreux, Switzerland, I assume.

The Masson is 2.2 km from the Montreux train station, about a 33 minute walk (this from mappy.com), and it's 0.7 km from the Territet station, about an 11 minute walk. It's just (about) two blocks from the bus stop for the line that runs parallel to the lake.

There is one restaurant that is very close, the Taverne de Chateau de Chillon, but the views stink (it's right on the main road). One of my favorite cafes, La Pavillon, is right at the Territet dock, about 11 minutes from the Masson (just downstairs from the Territet train station).

But considering that your walk "into town" to eat or shop will be on the lakeside promenade with its beautiful views, I rather think it's a positive element!

Let me know if I can help further.

Yes....sorry, I should have made my question more clear, it is Hotel Masson in Montreux, Switzerland.

S, I'm assuming when you said "the views stink" you meant from the Taverne not from Hotel Masson. Right? It would save us at least a few hundred dollars to stay at the Masson vs. the Golf so I'm trying to figure out if its worth the savings.

As always, thanks!

The views from the Masson are great. Try to get a room with full lake view - the sunset is gorgeous.

Have stayed there myself and was very pleased - except the dinner, it was just fair.

CollK,

Right, it's the views from the restaurant that stink; as Ingo says, the views from the Masson must be good (never stayed there).

Hi,
I just booked hotel Masson with somebody's recommendation, I think that must be Ingo, they are so nice ofcourse couple of e-mails went back and fourth. Even I wanted save some money and I took Montain view twin bedded room for 2 adults and 1 child for 2 nights they charged me CHF 350, if it is lake view CHF 440 they said, but they are so nice in the e-mail replys also. I have booked for July20-22 2004. In that e-mail they mentioned "Our hotel is situated in very quiet surroundings, with a restful garden, close to famous Chillon Castle and the lake, near the woods and just few minutes walk form the center of Montreux, along the flowered lakeside promenade. For your relaxation : Sauna and Jacuzzi.
From the train Station of Montreux (the closest main station) you have two possibilities to reach our hotel : either you take a taxi (appr. 10 minutes) for a cost of Sfr. 16.- or there is a shuttle bus which is running every ten minutes to our hotel (bus stop is called ?Bonivard?) with a journey of 10 minutes. We recommend you warmly to take a taxi if you have a lot of luggage. From the Station of Montreux till our hotel by foot, you have to count appr. 20 till 30 minutes along the lake side promenade."
Thanks
skon

Thanks for all the information -- I went ahead and booked the lake view room in August. I'm sure it'll be great. I'll report on it when we get back.

As stated, I really liked the hotel a lot. But it is more than just a few minutes walk into town. We had a car, so it was no problem. One night we took a cab to a fondue place because we knew there might be some wine involved. You might want to check out distance from center of town to hotel.

The distance to the centre of Montreux is IMO no problem: the local bus is running frequently (over the day every 10 minutes, till late night at least every half hour).
