I agree with the others that Legoland is not a good idea...
and I come from the perspective of having been in London this past spring with a 6yo, 8yo, and 10yo. They love the "history" and learning about cool things... interspersed with parks and fun things.
What about a Fat Tire Bike Tour ? We wanted to do it, but didn't have time - we've done them in Paris and they are great!
Favorite things:
- Tower Bridge - especially loved by the 6yo boy
- Tower of London - we ended up visiting twice (we could do that since we had an annual pass). big hit! (but more on that later)
- Brass Rubbing at St. Martin's in the Fields
- Windsor Castle - saw the Changing of the Guard here
- Hampton Court Palace - maze was a big hit! the 10yo loved the kitchens with people making food.
I'll work on my trip report...

I enjoyed the Royal Mews a whole lot - smells and all from this working stable of the Queen's steeds - lots of historic royal carriages on display and of course the behemoth horses themselves. Separate admission from Buckingham Palace when open.

I have a son who loved playing with legos. We went to Legoland in England two summers ago when he was 10. He had a great time. His older brother, 12 at the time, enjoyed our visit as well even though he was never the lego fanatic. We went to Legoland on our first day in England because I knew the boys would stay awake all day for a theme park, and we could more easily convert to Europe time. I think Legoland would also be a good break in the middle of a trip. We have visited theme parks throughout Europe on other trips because the parks provide a good day of kid entertainment and my kids have always enjoyed talking with the European kids in lines for attractions. Their favorite one is Europa Park. Go spend a day at Legoland. Your kids will have fun.
