Questions about 2 PARIS restaurants!
 

If anyone has been to the restaurant LE TRAIN BLEU in Paris...do they offer a nice prix-fixe lunch during the week? I am dying to see the Belle Epoque decor, but don't want to pay full price for dinner there.

Also, your thoughts on TAIRA restaurant in the 17th arrondissement?

I don't see anything that lists different menus for lunch, but they do show a menu Rejane for 43 euro, a "bargain" compared to their other menus.

We had a Sunday lunch at Le Train Bleu that was good and not too expensive, but that was two years ago when the exchange rate was better. I loved the restaurant and really went for the decor and not the food. My father was a railroad man which explains why what they have done with the D'orsay Museum and this restaurant fascinate me. It is a far cry from Fred Harvey's.

Thanks for your responses. I think I will just stop at the bar of Le Train Bleu for a kir royale or glass of champagne.

Life is too short to have so-so, expensive food in Paris! (Too many GREAT places.)

I thought the food at Le Train Bleu was good--certainly better than "so so", and at 43 euro for prix fixe, not so terribly expensive.

Betty, Le Train Bleu is a beautiful restaurant and the railroad station it is housed in is spectacular as well, as it looks a lot like it did when the Impressionists painted. Make enough time when you go there to see the mural that is painted on the walls above the ticket counters. They're on the left hand side of the station if Le Train Bleu is to your back.

I read somewhere that Le Train Bleu's food was fairly mediocre for a while, but recent management changes made a big difference in improving the cuisine there.
