Question re: getting around Cinque at night

Hello,

My husband and I (late 20s) will be staying in CT for 3 or 4 nights, and we're considering staying in Manarola (at Arpaiu, which has gotten good reviews on this board). We want to be away from overly crowded/touristy areas, but would like the option, say, of going into Monterosso one night for dinner and drinks. That said, if we wanted to do this, does the train service run at night (such that we could get a train from Monterosso to Manarola at 10pm?) (and as a side, what time do trains stop running)? Finally, are there any other transportation options between the villages at night? Many thanks in advance (:

Best,
Angela

The trains between the towns run until between 1 and 2am. You may have to jump betwwen the Cinque Terre to get to your desired destinations, but the train schedules are easy to figure out once you get there. I was there alst April for 3 nights and none of the 5 towns were crowded or touristy at night! We stayed in Monterosso, but we hung out in Vernazza almost every night with dinner one night in Manorola. If you're just going to dinner you should be fine!

After dark, I think the trains are your only option between towns.

Double check whatever info you pick up here when you get there. Italian trains are notorious for suddenly not running. Just ask before you head out for Monterosso about the trains.

You might not want to leave Manarola, however, especially once you climb up the hill a bit, where most tourists don't go. There are little restaurants up there.

Aloha Angela,

We're also getting ready for a trip to Italy and the Cinque Terre, and I've been looking at this site for some of my other travel plans: http://www.italiarail.com/tickets/IR/IR.asp?AFF=TRE Just plug in "Manarola" and "Monterosso" and you should be able to pull up a schedule. Hope it helps--Mike

While staying in Manarola, we've used the train several times to go to Monterosso or Vernazza or Corniglia for dinner. We've never had a problem in the evening with the trains.

That's one of the beauties of staying in the Cinque Terre. It's very easy to go to one of the other villages for dinner and to get back easily by train.
