Question may seem odd, however.

We are travelling to Ireland this week and in the midst of packing. My husband likes polo style jerseys with khaki slacks, he has some Hilfiger jerseys. Would it be ok to wear the Hilfigers?
I appreciate any input and thankyou in advance.

He'll be arrested.

stfc Aug 6th, 2008 01:33 PM

Yes, it certainly is an odd question. They're not orange are they? Please say yes, then this thread will go on for ever.

red, white and blue (stripes)...
He'll be arrested AND deported. :D

Two weeks ago, when I was in Ireland, I saw a shocking variety of clothes worn by both locals and tourists. I came to the conclusion that the average Irish citizen has too much of a so called "life" to even waste one brain cell on the outfit of another person.

collinsmfg Aug 6th, 2008 01:46 PM

Not orange,a white one and yellow one, very conservative, with the very small flag Hilfiger insignia flag. We're in our early sixties, dress nicely, however, certainly don't want to offend anyone and want to be politically correct.
Cowboy1968 I like your way of thinking. It certainly wouldn't bother me, as a matter of fact, with the various style of dress in the U.S. and some of it being offensive, I just shrug and go about my business.

jamikins Aug 6th, 2008 01:48 PM

You will have no problem. Dont worry about it. People wear the same thing here in Europe as they do in N. America. They are definitely more fashionable...but you are on vacation and TH will not offend.

Enjoy your vacation!

logos999 Aug 6th, 2008 01:52 PM

Is this a serious question? Or have you never been abroad.
Just a question. :-)

dmlove Aug 6th, 2008 01:52 PM

I ask this in all seriousness -- what could possibly be offensive about a Tommy Hilfiger shirt? Did Tommy do something wrong? Or were you just worried people would laugh at your choice of clothing?

Cowboy1968 Aug 6th, 2008 01:59 PM

collinsmfg--

I did not mean to make (too much) fun of your question.. well, maybe a little, but:

You will find Hilfinger shirts and sweaters in the most godforsaken Irish town for sale, as well as most other international clothing brands you can think of.

I bet a round of Guinness that no Irish will be able to understand how you could possibly be able to offend him/her by wearing a Hilfinger shirt.

yk Aug 6th, 2008 02:24 PM

Would it be okay for French tourists to wear Lacoste polo shirts in the US?

Nobody will care.

collinsmfg Aug 6th, 2008 02:27 PM

Yes,it's a serious question, and yes, we've been abroad several times. However, not to Ireland.
We like to dress stylishly and dress well.
Jamikins, I appreciate your last thought!
Also, Cowboy1968, yes you're right about the round of Guinness and more so, when they would hear the Irish name.
Thankyou all -
Ciao everyone!

Tschau Tschau and good night. :D

suze Aug 6th, 2008 03:00 PM

YES They will be fine. Please realize most of the post here are teasing you.

tomboy Aug 6th, 2008 05:08 PM

I'm astonished; doesn't anyone know what "Hilfiger" means in Gaelic?

MelJ Aug 6th, 2008 05:39 PM

Okay, I'll bite. What is potentially offensive about "Hilfiger" in Ireland?

onetwo Aug 6th, 2008 08:39 PM

On another note light colored khaki slacks are not very practical for travel especially to Ireland. Plan on washing them frequently.

LoveItaly Aug 6th, 2008 09:57 PM

Perhaps you were concerned collinsmfg because of the false and phoney emails that have spread around regarding the absolutely false story of Hilfiger comments on the Oprah show some time ago..all false. In fact he wasn't on the Oprah show and consequently did not make the comments he was accussed of making. Other than that I don't know why you would be asking.

nona1 Aug 7th, 2008 01:28 AM

Go on Collins, you've got to put us out of our misery.

What was it that made you think twice about the brand-name Hilfiger in case it caused offence?

SiobhanP Aug 7th, 2008 02:27 AM

They sell Tommy Hilfigger here as well..own two pairs of jeans that i bought in Arnotts a dept store here that has a hilfigger section...all is ok wear them.
Fashion is more globalised these days and you will find people wearing more or less the sames styles world wide due to this. don't worry.
