Question for Stu

Stu,
My wife and I will be taking a short car journey from Chambery up the Cote d'Or and maybe tasting and buying some wines on our way to Dijon. Do you have any suggestions for tasting? Any tips on the Chablis area would be helpful as well.

Cheers

Not really. I live close to the Napa/Sonoma wine country and have visited/tasted wine from hundreds of wineries here & in France. We kinda stopped visiting wineries years ago - after a while, there's not much difference except maybe in the building architecture. We spent a few hours in the Geroges Lebeuf (sp) complex in Beaujolais, and also purchased a few wines at wineries when we liked their wine for dinner - but thats about it. We visited Clos Vougeot, but I don't think they make wine there - we just looked around the buildings.

Hi jay,

If you are interested in Chablis, I suggest you go directly to the source...the little town of Chablis. I am not that sure of distance, but, I think it is about 1 1/2 hours north beyond Dijon. We were there in November and intend to return this fall as we only had a day.

The town is really lovely and filled with tasting rooms. Our favorite was: William Fevre 21, Avenue D'Oberwesel. Their Premiers Crus were wonderful.

Thanks Stu. We don't want to do alot of wineries but 2 really good ones or even a co-op might be good. We stopped at a winery in Puget France 2 years ago and the wine was fantastic. I still have 2 bottles.

Thanks Traviata. I will be sure to stop.

Then go to the Marche au Vin in Beaune.
