Question for S. Fowler about Bersolys

HI,

I am going to Paris with my 14 year old ,a friend and
her daughter on November 1. We like your comments on
the Bersolys and are considering that hotel, and the
Muguet.

One question--I've been reading Fodor's about getting
from CDG to Paris, and with 4 people, a taxi won't
work. The shuttle is a possibility, but you have to
call it from the airport---how easy is it to use the
phone in Paris? Would love to use the Air France
bus, but I can't tell how close any of the stops are
to either the Bersoly's or the Muguet. How did you
manage your airport transfers? Any advice for us?

Thanks,

Kathryn

If you have packed light you can take the RER into the center of town and find your hotel. If not convenient to a RER station and metro transfer you can get to town and then find a taxi station.

Why can't you take a taxi? 3 in back, 1 in front.

I'm glad you are considering Bersoly's -- having stayed in both the Muguet neighborhood and at Bersoly's, the 7eme close to the Seine and the 6eme wins hands down!
We took the ait shuttle. Made the reservation over the internet. The only mystery was using the French pay phones to call them on arrival. Once conquered we didn't have to wait more that 10 minutes or so.
We did reconfirm our return trip the day before as they as I think [I reconfirm everything anyway:)] They arrive 10 minutes early for a 6:30am pick up.
I would use the air shuttle again. I know things can go wrong, as they do anywhere, but it's a nice compromise between lugging and taxi.

So glad to hear both the shuttle worked out since I have reserved that means, also by internet, and that you still like the Bersolys, which I booked by phone/fax on your recomendation.

S.Fowler -- I do have another question for you -- should I call or fax again next weeek (about 1 week before we go) to reconfirm my Bersolys' reservation. Has there ever been a problem with lost reservations there??

It does seem to be a great location, close to Rue Cler, Notre Dame, Rodin, etc. Any special suggestions for a Sunday meal -- brunch, lunch or dinner? Any suggestions for breakfast other than the hotel?
Thanks again -- we are really looking forward to the week.

We just ate at the hotel. It's the usual arched cellar with rolls juice and caffeine. I have enough trouble leaving my room before breakfast as it is to explore outside options:)
I wouldn't worry about reconfirming your reservation. We didn't doublecheck, but I did have a copy of the return fax they sent to my travel agent and I would recommend your bring yours. My experience is that they are good people there.
Note: you aren't very near Rue Cler. The hotel is on the far side of the 7eme about a half block from the 6eme. BUT you are two blocks from Musee d'Orsay and the Seine and about 3 from St. Germain Blvd and/or the Louvre pyramid.
The shopping in the St. Germain area is, or course, spectacular.
Let me know if you want restaurant recommendations, although others may help you more with the younger set:)
I hoep you have a fabulous time - and please report back :)
Hi,

Regarding calling the shuttle service on arrival at CDG, is there a secret to using the phones in France that we could learn now, before our trip?

Thanks,
Kathryn

I was told [either by the shuttle or in the guidebooks] that you needed to put a coin in the phone. The air shuttle number is their equivalent of a US 800 number so it turns out you didn't need to at least where I was.
