Question for HOPSCOTCH re Paris cabaret
Hopscotch,
Hello! I had read somewhere that you recommended the Crazy Horse show in Paris. Can you explain it a little more?
The reason I ask is because I am interested in seeing a Paris cabaret-type show, but I am not so interested in the super-touristy shows (Moulin Rouge) so much as the surreal performances I have heard about--part magic, part singing, etc.
If you--or anyone else--can help guide me in the right direction, I would appreciate it. Thanks!

Actually, upon further reading on this board, it sounds like Crazy Horse is super-touristy.
Anything more avant-garde is appreciated. (Can be slightly off the beaten path.)

The Crazy Horse is an erotic floor show. I would not characterize it as cabaret. It's mostly flesh without the song, in an intimate little theatre, but very well staged. I was living in Paris when I went, with tourists from Germany. How could any good stage show in Paris exist without tourists?

Upon further internet research, I found a few cabaret clubs and shows that are more French-oriented and less geared toward the busloads of foreign tourists.
Au Limonaire and L'Elephante Bleue were among a handful mentioned that have acts mostly in French (including Edith Piaf-type siniging, accordion performances, magicians and even fortune-telling). I think this is more of what I'm looking for. (I'm not so into the half-naked people running about scenario!)
While I do not profess to be fluent in French, I think my French is still good enough to enjoy the ambiance of these palces.

Thanks for your suggestion. Yes, Au Lapin Agile was suggested to me. I have heard mixed reviews--some saying it is super-touristy, others saying it is mixed with more French-speaking audience members. But I do plan to ask around further.
