Question about Writing A Trip Report

Hi everyone. I'm (finally) working on my long overdue trip report from Europe in September. Do people like to see links in there? If I am talking about a restaurant or a museum, do you like to have a link provided? I'm suddenly realizing I'm not sure I see that a lot in trip reports. !Thanks =

I enter them haphazardly, depending on the circumstances.

If it is a place you are specifically recommending - like a B&B, Hotel, or special restaurant, then yes, a link is helpful. But every museum or site you visited, I wouldn't.

Interesting! Thanks you two. That will contribute to making it shorter!

I put in links most of the time, but if you don't and someone is interested, it is usually easy enough to google and find it oneself.

No, I'm usually too busy just blabbing on and on to get practical like that.

I like links but not for every thing you see and do. Just the most interesting or off beat things. Also links for photos would be great.

The most important thing is to use plenty of paragraphs for easy reading. I'm totally turned off when people don't create paragraphs.

Hi Sus,

I put links to websites of places that I mention in my TRs.

SusanG, my suggestion for trip reports is to keep paragraphs relatively short for easier reading. I also like to capitalize names of hotels, museums, restaurants, and other attractions.

Just a suggestion...

Do whatever comes naturally :)

Looking forward to your trip report!

I really like links.
They're not necessary for the big museums like the Louvre but for restaurants etc then I consider them very useful.

I second this suggestion. Much easier to read that way.

DOUBLE SPACING HELPS

adrienne Feb 17th, 2012 02:21 PM

Double spacing would take an enormous amount of time since the OP would have to put a return at the end of each line and then an extra return for another space. If there's any editing, text will need to be moved to another line. It's not easy to read double spaced text.

If you want something double spaced then copy it to a Word document and double space.

I put in some links at the point of mention. I usually make a list of hotels and restaurants at the end of the report, sometimes with links, but usually with address to help with the googling.

And I believe in paragraph returns. I have stopped reading reports that are one long paragraph. I dislike when people capitalize words within paragraphs because it always feels like yelling to me

StCirq Feb 17th, 2012 06:21 PM

And I don't read any reports from people who don't use capitalization at the beginning of sentences and who use texting-type abbreviations. Doesn't matter if it's a trip report or any other kind of post.

You guys, you are so supportive! Thanks for the tips. I can't possibly live up to all of your reports, but I'll do my best!
