Question about train stations in Como
We'll be arriving in Como by train, and then taking the ferry to Menaggio. Which train station in Como is closes to the ferry stop? Is it St. Giovanni?
|
Como Nord Lago is very near the ferries.
Como San Giovanni is a 10-minute walk. |

If it is more convenient for you to arrive at San Giovanni (i.e. the station which connects with Milano Centrale) then there is a bus which stops at the station and goes to Menaggio - the C10. See timetable here - http://www.asfautolinee.it/LinkClick...language=en-US
The San Giovanni station is described as Stazione FS |
noc: Why is it "more convenient" to arrive at S. Giovanni? Because it's direct from Milano? And you're recommending the bus to Menaggio instead of the ferry?
Thanks, and please explain, |
You did not specify where you were arriving from. If you are coming from Malpensa then perhaps the easiest is to take the Malpensa Express to Saronno and then to Como Lago and take the ferry. If however you are already arriving at Milano Centrale then San Giovanni is more convenient. It also matters how much luggage you have. The bus stop is right outside the station whereas the boat pier is about 300 yards from Como Lago station. I just feel that it is less of a hassle taking the boat without luggage.

The two different stations in Como are served by two different train lines and so depending on your starting point, one may be more convenient than the other.
Add to the mix: there is yet ANOTHER train line that begins at Milano Centrale and goes north along the east side of the lake. Many people opt for this route because it stops at Varenna-Esino, directly across the lake from Bellagio and Menaggio. |
