Question about the Venice Accademia Villa Maravege
 

I have been offered a ground floor suite "overlooking front garden and a small internal canal." Can someone with experience let me know if this is desirable? My concern is whether the front garden which the room faces is one and the same as where they serve breakfast in the AM and drinks in the PM, and will therefore be quite noisy at those times. Also, what is an internal canal? Any information will be most appreciated.

Hi I stayed at Pensione Accademia (Maravege) two times, once in a double room and last time in a single. The single I had may be the same or next to that you have reserved. Don’t kow you have single or double. From my window, the front garden, a side canal (connecting Canal Grande and another big canal Giudecca – this must be what they call internal canal), and a part of Canal Grande were visible. Both times I was there it was still too cold so the breakfast was served in the very nice breakfast room. Did not know they serve in the garden. For me this is a almost perfect 3 star hotel.

Oops, you say "ground floor suite". My rooms were on the 1st(European) floor both times.

I too have only been there in winter, but I do believe this is where breakfast is served. Regardless, it's the front entrance of the hotel & I'm not sure I'd want a ground floor accomodation there. What they mean by an internal canal is that it is not the Grand Canal but a smaller one that meets the Grand Canal further up from the hotel. ie no vaparettos on this stretch, just possibly water taxis & smaller boats.

We stayed at Pensione Accademia two years ago in May, and it was terrific. The four of us were the only ones who sat out in the front courtyard in the morning and had coffee. Everyone else used the indoor dining room. They also have a nice rear courtyard where we had our fair share of Bellinis. I highly recommend this place. the front desk was friendly (well, actually the guy BEHIND the front desk), and we had a great stay. Tom
