Question about the Carte d'Orange
Hello! Husband and I leave for 9 days in Paris and we're going to purcase the Carte d'Orange (the one week pass) for the metro.
I understand a small photo is required. Must it be a passport photo/on photographic paper? I think I read somewhere that I can simply print out a color photo from a printer on regular paper and use this, as long as it's the correct size...can anyone confirm? Thank you in advance for your help. |
Hm, I would definitly use a *real* photo, but most Métro stations have teeny booths where you can get 4 passport-type pictures for four euros (must be in coins). If you have passport photos, just trim them to the correct size before you put them on the card.
Happy travels! |
It's also acceptable to cut up any old photo so long as it contains a headshot.

FYI, it's simply the orange card (Carte Orange), not carte d'orange. I believe I've read the official "rules" and they say it must be a real photo. I wouldn't fool with that myself, trying to get one without a photo, but I don't really know if they generally allow that and it will be fine. I just read the RATP rules somewhere. Why don't you want to take a real photo? They aren't that expensive.
No, it does not have to be a passport photo per se, if you mean the same one you have in your passport. But that size is about right and works. I've used an extra copy of a passport photo once, and another time I got one in a photo booth in one of the metro/RER stations. |
I have used just a head shot from my digital camera that I printed out on photo paper and cut to size. I wouldn't know if they'd accept one printed on plain paper, but if you don't have a printer or photo paper it's easy enough to print one at any drug store or Wal-Mart..or just use the photo booths at the metro stations.

Any photo should do as long as it's a front-facing passport-type shot. The size of the photo required is smaller than your passport, though... looks about 2/3rds of the size... maybe smaller.
The photo booths cost 4 euros minimum for one set of photos (so 8 for both you and your husband), so I'd recommend taking photos at home if you can. |
